Despite their potential, characters like Star and Stripe from My Hero Academia seem to have less screen time and impact on the story compared to other characters.
In chapter 329/season 7 episode 1, Star and Stripe made her debut but her time in the spotlight was short-lived. Known as America’s top Hero, she possessed the formidable quirk, New Order, which was considered one of the strongest in the series. However, her journey was cut short as she was swiftly defeated by Tomura Shigaraki before even reaching Japanese airspace.
Despite her potential, not much was made of her character. This article highlights anime characters such as Star and Stripe, who were also not fully utilized.
Anime Characters Similar to Star and Stripe
Character Profile: Yorozu (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Yorozu from Jujutsu Kaisen earns a spot on this list of anime characters similar to Star and Stripe because of her unfortunate treatment. The writer effectively utilizes her character to bring together Tsumiki and Megumi Fushiguro. Additionally, she grants Ryomen Sukuna a valuable tool that he utilizes in the future.
Despite being present in the manga, her role felt rushed and solely focused on winning over the Demon King. If she had taken on the identity of Tsumiki, her presence as Megumi’s sister could have had a stronger emotional impact. Additionally, her intelligence and strategic abilities were noteworthy and she could have posed a significant threat had she been given more time to survive.
Character Profile: Helen from Yu Yu Hakusho
On this list of anime characters similar to Star and Stripe, there is also Helen from Yu Yu Hakusho. Helen was one of Tarukane’s demon pets, a formidable chimera created by merging multiple animals. She was defeated by a younger Toguro, who wanted to showcase his strength.
However, there was room for more to be explored. Helen’s actions opened the door to further examination of the treatment of demons. Additionally, the impact of the protagonist’s enemy sparing her could have been heightened instead of him simply killing her and regretting it afterwards.
Karin Uzumaki from Naruto
Despite being an Uzumaki, Karin’s potential as a powerful anime character, similar to Star and Stripe, was never fully realized. Her identity and abilities were not given the proper attention they deserved, particularly her exceptional healing powers.
Despite being portrayed as overly obsessed with Sasuke Uchiha, her character was much more complex. In fact, her abilities were crucial in ensuring Sasuke’s survival. Additionally, with a backstory like hers, she had the potential to be a sympathetic character with a kind and empathetic heart.
Character: Mao from Code Geass
Similar to Star and Stripe, fans of Code Geass can easily understand why Mao is another memorable anime character. Mao obtained his Geass from C.C. long before she met Lelouch, but unfortunately, it drove him to madness. This gave a glimpse of what could have happened to Lelouch.
Despite its presence, the arc failed to provide any significant insight into C.C.’s past. It quickly concluded within a few episodes, leaving Mao, who had a tumultuous and painful past because of C.C., to be portrayed as a disposable and homicidal character.
Chad Yasutora (Bleach)
While it may come as a surprise to some, Bleach’s Chad Yasutora also joins the ranks of anime characters similar to Star and Stripe. Although the series primarily centers around protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki, it seems that his past friendships are often overshadowed.
Chad is a devoted ally to Ichigo, but his defining trait is his unwavering loyalty. Despite participating in countless battles throughout the series, he always seems to come up short when it truly counts. Each time he manages to grow stronger and achieve victory, he is inevitably humbled by even stronger opponents such as Shunsui Kyoraku or Nnoitora Gilga. It’s as if he has reached a plateau in terms of his development in Bleach.
Naomi Misora – Character Profile (Death Note)
It can be widely accepted that Naomi Misora from Death Note deserves a spot on the list of anime characters similar to Star and Stripe. In short, her intelligence is unmatched and even admired by L himself. However, this exceptional intellect may have been the reason why creator Tsugumi Ohba sidelined her early on.
If he had not taken that action, it is possible that she would have discovered Light Yagami’s true identity earlier than anticipated. Throughout her appearances, she expressed a desire to leave her job and start a new life by getting married. A minor adjustment could have presented Naomi in a different perspective and potentially utilized her skills more effectively.
Elizabeth Liones – The Seven Deadly Sins Character
Elizabeth Liones from The Seven Deadly Sins is an essential addition to this list. Despite the series’ decline, which has disappointed many, even its most impressive characters were unable to prevent it. Unfortunately, Elizabeth’s character is no exception to this trend.
It is a widely shared belief among viewers of the series that her presence primarily served as fan service. Despite being the female lead, her role did not hold much significance. Meliodas’ actions often objectified her, and at times, the jokes went too far. Her character could have been explored further if she was treated as more than just a sexualized object.
Juvia Lockser from Fairy Tail
Despite having many strengths, Fairy Tail is not without its flaws. A significant concern is the portrayal of its female characters. However, Juvia Lockser can be considered on par with iconic anime characters like Star and Stripe, ensuring the series’ longevity.
Despite having her moment in the limelight and displaying impressive strength, she was ultimately reduced to a mere fangirl. While her character was intriguing and begged for further development, her requests were ignored. She possessed the potential to become one of the series’ leading heroines, yet it remained untapped.
9) Nejire Hado – Character from My Hero Academia
Nejire Hado, from the popular anime My Hero Academia, is one of the many notable characters alongside Star and Stripe. She was initially introduced as a member of the “Big Three,”though her male counterparts Mirio and Tamaki were often given more opportunities to showcase their abilities compared to her.
Despite being part of the female cast in the series, her appearance was given more importance. Though she delivered some impressive fight scenes, they did not meet the high expectations set by the show. Additionally, she was initially portrayed as a “cute airhead,”which may hold some truth, but it should not overshadow her role as a Pro-Hero and her incredible strength.
Saki Hanakago’s Role in Platinum End
Adding to the list of anime characters similar to Star and Stripe is Saki Hanakago from Platinum End. In the show, both Mirai and Saki were portrayed as rather unremarkable. Their more powerful companions often took charge, leaving a sense of letdown as they were meant to be the main Shonen protagonists.
Despite Mirai’s blandness, Saki had the potential to be a strong and dynamic female lead. However, it appeared that her entire existence revolved around Mirai, even after the effects of the Red Arrow had faded. While it was understandable that she was an innocent high school student who was not interested in fighting, she still mainly served as a cheerleader for Mirai.
Despite wearing an impressive and formidable battlesuit, her contribution to the overall battle remained unchanged.
