100 Thieves Set Unfortunate Records at Worlds 2024

100 Thieves have faced elimination from the League of Legends Worlds 2024 following a lopsided defeat against PSG Talon, marking a generally underwhelming performance during the Play-Ins.

In the process, the well-known 100T team unfortunately set a record as the first North American (NA) team to be eliminated at the Worlds Play-In stage.

100 Thieves entered the tournament with high expectations after an impressive run during the LCS Summer 2024 Championship, where they achieved a notable 3-1 victory over the formidable Cloud9 lineup, knocking them out in the third round.

Despite finishing third overall due to a significant loss to eventual champions FlyQuest, fans were optimistic about their potential on the international stage. Although hopes of replicating DRX’s success in 2022 were ambitious, few anticipated their early exit.

Ultimately, they were simply outperformed.

Since the beginning of Play-Ins on September 25, 100 Thieves have struggled. They approached the elimination match against PSG after suffering a distressing 1-2 loss to LLA team Rainbow7, entering that match as the favored competitor.

A glimmer of hope appeared when 100T bounced back with a convincing 2-0 victory over Softbank HAWKS, but they failed to build on any momentum gained.

Fans of 100 Thieves may find solace in the relative youth of the current roster, though it remains uncertain if they will compete as the same line-up next year.

With this recent performance, PSG advances to the Swiss Stage, greatly bolstering their reputation, and many teams will be eager to avoid facing them. Their first match-up will be against Hanwha Life Esports on October 3.
