Iron Gate combines the cooperative dynamic that makes Minecraft so captivating with spectacular combat engagements in the form of multiple boss bouts.

In this endless universe, you and your companions may not only establish your very own Viking homestead, but also compete against the many bosses of this procedurally generated globe. Valheim, like every other sandbox survival game, has a lot to uncover. It’s the kind of game that rewards you with player moments rather than directing you to cinematic conflicts that all play out the same way. The most intriguing aspect of Valheim thus far is that its current level of great amusement is still in the works. We can’t wait to see Valheim in all of its magnificent magnificence.

Guilty Gear Strive

It’s difficult to define what constitutes a good fighting game, but one of the better examples now available on Game Pass is Guilty Gear Strive. It skillfully mixes the intricate mechanics of every good fighting game with the ease of entry required to persuade newbies to stick around. The “campaign” is simple; it’s more of a film than an interactive experience.

After that, you may host and invite friends to battle bouts, practice moves on your own, or engage in The Tower’s multiplayer offers. You control your troops and your expanding cities in much the same way you used to. Did we mention there’s also co-op? We’re all about the competition stomps.

Atomic Heart

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: the Rapture. No, Atomic Heart is not the spiritual successor to BioShock that you’ve been hoping for. The story falls short in various ways, not the least of which being the protagonist’s method of speaking and interacting with the humans (and machines) around him, and the diverse nature of the gameplay aspects Atomic Heart attempts to integrate stops it from becoming a masterpiece.

Having saying that, it can be a lot of fun to play. After you’ve figured out how to correctly combine Charles’ powers with competent melee fighting and pretty solid gunplay, mowing down groups of artificial opponents becomes as mindless as munching on your favorite chips. And did we mention how fantastic the game looks? The beginning sequence is visually impressive on its own, but Atomic Heart continuously strives to present fresh ambient types to amaze your eyes.

Skate 3

Skate 3 is a classic that is available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers via EA Play. Even if you’ve never skateboarded before, the excitement you may have from Skate 3 is evident. The variety of stunts available, the places in which you may skate, and the bones you can break all combine to one of the most exciting games available. To top it all off, you can play Skate 3 online with pals to “contest” or just zip around parks one-upping each other.

If you know someone who has played Skate 3, you can bet they have at least one story about something amazing they did while playing, complete with a hilarious anecdote about how the ragdoll physics turned what could have been a failed trick into a burst of genuine laughter, the kind that hurts your face. Skate 3’s visuals reveal how old it is, yet it has aged exceptionally well.

Astroneer

There can never be too many fun space-themed sandbox games. In Astroneer, you explore numerous planets, gathering enough resources to go on to the next one while establishing little bases on each one to help you with your journey. Moving about on the various planets is certainly wonky, and you can anticipate your rover and other modes of transportation to get…stuck on sometimes.

The problems you experience as you comb the surface of each planet, though, are all part of Astroneer’s allure. It blends the mindlessness of a must-mine-for-minerals game with the teeth-gritting nature of a survival game. It’s simple, enjoyable, and challenging all at the same time. And did we mention that you may play with your friends?

Surgeon Simulator 2

Some simulator games take pride in how realistic their simulations can be. Farming Simulator, for example, is a series that is definitely dedicated to the goal of authenticity when it comes to maintaining and managing your own farm. Surgeon Simulator 2 is not among them. Surgeon Simulator 2 takes pleasure in being the polar opposite of what real surgery is like. Requiem seems like one of Sony’s legendary narrative-driven games, and each character’s performance is outstanding. A Plague Tale: Requiem is a wonderful place to start if you’re an Xbox lover who feels like you’re losing out on single-player adventures.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a remastered version of the PlayStation 3 fighting game that was originally published in 2013. YES! YES! YES! The R stands for Remaster.

It’s difficult to compare All-Star Battle R to more modern games in the genre like Dragon Ball FighterZ or Mortal Kombat 11, but even if you’re not a fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, there’s a simple joy in being able to choose from a large roster of characters without having to take the combat as seriously as something from a top-tier franchise. Finally, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R isn’t a game that will stand the test of time like its contemporaries, but it features a massive cast of characters from one of the most innovative manga/anime series of all time. And, of course, seeing so many characters and their respective stands come to life in a game will be a pleasure for all JoJo fans.

Darkest Dungeon

Without a doubt, Darkest Dungeon prepares players for a nasty, turn-based roguelike experience. As the unhappy beneficiary of a cursed estate, players must assemble a team of daring-yet-vulnerable adventurers to root out the corruption that has engulfed it. Fighting is as dangerous to the body as it is to the mind – players have a sanity number that will deteriorate as they are confronted to the Lovecraftian monsters that inhabit the various biomes, driving them insane.

The term “Lovecraftian horrors” is taken fairly literally here, as the themes and monster designs are clearly influenced by Lovecraft’s ageless stories of cosmic terror, and are depicted in a gloriously bright, almost comic book-like graphic style. With Wayne June describing the encounter, you’re in for a wonderful (though exhausting) excursion.

GoldenEye 007

GoldenEye 007 is one of the most recognizable 3D games in history. It not only popularized first-person shooters on home consoles, paving the way for Halo: Combat Evolved four years later, but it also exposed a new generation of gamers to fundamental FPS games such as Team Deathmatch. It was a technological wonder when it was first published, and it is one of those games that aficionados should attempt even if they have no personal fondness for it. Nonetheless, history apart, it still has a fantastic campaign and does an excellent job with the James Bond Property and soundtrack.

All of this is to say that the Xbox version of GoldenEye 007 does not support online play.

Hi-Fi Rush

Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm action game, which means that hitting strikes in tune with the music rewards players. However, Hi-Fi Rush has put a lot of thought into making sure that even rhythm-challenged gamers will enjoy its battle.

Few games scream “Try me!” as loudly as Hi-Fi Rush, with its quick speed and stunning candy-colored design. The refinement of the game is instantly noticeable, with graphic flourishes at every turn and fully spoken cutscenes. Without giving anything away, Hi-Fi Rush does an excellent job with its licensed music, spanning genres to keep the music new and interesting throughout the game.

Persona 4 Golden

If the debut of Persona 5 Royal on Xbox Game Pass was a delight for you, your enjoyment should be double now. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have both been added to the Game Pass library. It is an exciting time for Persona aficionados. Everything you liked about Royal may be present in Persona 4, to some extent, and it’s a great experience to go back in time with the franchise.

Persona 4 presents one of the most delightful and poignant storylines in gaming to date, while not being as stylish as its eventual sequel. The bonds you form with your other characters are just as significant, and the improvements made to the aesthetics and gameplay elevate the whole experience. Thus, if you dipped your toes into the Persona franchise with Persona 5, don’t be afraid to jump into Persona 4.

Monster Hunter Rise

One of the most common mistakes people make before playing Monster Hunter Rising is comparing it to World. These are two games situated in the same universe, but they are worlds apart. Having said that, each are excellent in their own right. Monster Hunter Rising is an excellent place to begin if you’re new to the series. Its mechanics have been simplified, removing many of the problems seen in World.

If you’re searching for a gentle start to Monster Hunter, Rise is the game for you. Furthermore, since Monster Hunter: World was withdrawn from Xbox Game Pass, there has been a distinct Monster Hunter-shaped void in our lives. Rise addresses that void while also offering a more refined and approachable experience.

Lawn Mowing Simulator

Listen to us out. While the physical effort of mowing a lawn is a huge barrier, doing it in a video game is one of the most relaxing activities you can do. You may cut a mechanized path in tidy, straight lines across huge grassy slopes in Lawn Mowing Simulator. Mortal Shell is perhaps the most Souls-like of the Soulslikes, since the majority of the basic gameplay components will be instantly and intimately known to anyone entrenched in FromSoftware’s renowned collection. That isn’t to suggest it doesn’t have its own particular personality and subtleties.

One main feature that distinguishes it is the name — Shells. In Mortal Shell, players begin as an extremely soft piece of beef jerky, but progress through numerous distinct bodies, or “shells,” each with its own play style and attributes. Players can expect a crisp implementation of the various Souls tropes, such as parries and ripostes, theatrical monster encounters requiring careful timing, and a decrepit, moldering world calling for a rescuer, in addition to numerous other unique elements. Fans of Dark Souls will feel right at home.

Stranded Deep

If you enjoy games like The Forest and Raft, then Stranded Deep will be a good time. While it does not create new ground, it does serve as a solid entry into the survival genre. While your character fights to flee the collection of islands and open ocean they’ve crash-landed on, you manage your health, hydration, and skin protection. When you first start out, stay on shore or in shallow water since the deep ocean is home to terrifyingly large sharks.

Yet, like with other survival games, you may train yourself to face the sea’s terrors and find your way home. Make some weapons, build a base, and survive. Stranded Deep contains the genre’s fundamental building components. If you know the procedure, you’ll have no trouble with this one.

High On Life

High on Life is the wacky FPS experience you’ve been waiting for, created by some of the geniuses behind Rick and Morty. You can’t go through three minutes of the game without encountering Justin Roiland’s trademark crassness and comedy. You can’t even last a minute in the game.

Apart from the comedy, High on Life is an enjoyable shooter game that blends a good base of FPS principles with the type of platforming you’d expect to find in classic 3D platformers. If you’re searching for something amusing and entertaining (and don’t mind playing a video game instead of watching a TV), we highly suggest High on Life.

Immortals Fenyx Rising

It’s understandable if you’re becoming tired of the Assassin’s Creed formula. Despite refreshing things with Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, Ubisoft has established a reputation for routinely releasing a large open-world game with several side tasks, all of which add up to a steadily more and more tiresome experience with each new edition.

Immortals Fenyx Rising retains the core of what you’d expect from a Ubisoft open world, but it’s been given more life and vivacity thanks to its entertaining tale, genuinely gratifying upgrading system, and an aesthetic style that adds a colorful flavor to the Greek mythology the game follows. Immortals Fenyx Rising is both enjoyable and shocking. While you may choose to forgo the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, this outlier from the franchise’s creators is a must-play.

Aragami 2

Solidly built cooperative stealth-action games are hard to come by, but Aragami 2 does it admirably. As a member of a clan of undead ninja-guardians, it is your responsibility, along with up to two stealthy companions, to harass, harry, and disrupt an invading army while it pillages your territory and slaughters your people.

The stealth and combat mechanisms in Aragami 2 walk a careful line between basic accessibility and complexity, delivering just enough subtlety to keep players interested while avoiding a learning curve that appears impenetrable to newbies. It’s definitely worth more than a spin, especially if you have a few of pals with you.

Dishonored

Dishonored is a classic, and while its sequel (also on our list) improves in many ways (loud nonlethal takedown options, for example), nothing beats the original. Corvo’s quest for revenge (or justice, depending on your perspective) is one for the ages. Every situation you’re put in, you feel like you have alternatives for how you respond.

Do you wish to scatter glasses and bottles in different directions to mislead the guards as they gather for whiskey and cigars? You certainly can. Do you wish to take the high ground and jump-assassinate innocent victims below you all the time? You certainly can. Do you want to fight to be a nice person, choking and dragging individuals in your path to broom closets so no one discovers them and informs the entire building? You may give it a go. Despite the fact that Corvo was imprisoned and is continually pursued by the government for a crime he did not commit, Dishonored is all about freedom. Few games capture that as well as this one.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

We knew LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga would be on our list as soon as it was revealed that it would be available on Game Pass. When it comes to cooperative experiences, LEGO games in general are a fountain of fun, and The Skywalker Saga is one of the finest LEGO games you can play right now. You get to go across a galaxy far, far away, dipping into each Star Wars film that has so far comprised the primary plot.

The perspective of worlds you explore is breathtaking, but extremely block-shaped due to the visual restrictions of a LEGO brick universe. The customary foundations are also there, providing you with a once-in-a-lifetime collectathon experience and allowing you to access the most cherished characters of the Star Wars world. If you enjoy entertainment, you will enjoy The Skywalker Saga.

Amnesia: Rebirth

Whilst Amnesia: Rebirth did not have the same cultural impact as The Dark Descent, it is a terrifyingly brilliantly depicted tale about a person’s quest to overcome the darkness within and without. Tasi Trianon, your character, must figure out why a disaster hit her expedition and crashed her plane into the Algerian desert, and why she has no memory of what happened.

Rebirth is a terrifying experience, as one would expect from a Frictional Games release. What you would not anticipate, though, is the heartbreaking sadness of many of its occurrences. The emotional turmoil in Amnesia: Rebirth is double that of The Dark Descent and Soma combined. Hence, if you prefer your horror games to intertwine with deeper ideas, don’t pass over Rebirth.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season

The Walking Dead series by Telltale Games has laid a quiet foundation for your narrative adventure experiences in the Xbox Game Pass library. While newer titles such as As Dusk Falls continue to surprise and excite us, we will never forget the trip that Lee and Clementine embarked on all those years ago. You may now complete Clementine’s journey with the inclusion of The Final Season to Game Pass.

Her final story’s narrative twists and turns are just as heartbreaking as you recall, if not more so, because you know this is the end of the path. Your choices throughout the game have always seemed meaningful, but this time they feel even more so as you witness the person you moulded Clementine to be has matured into the person who molds someone else’s destiny. Get prepared to cry a few tears.

Return To Monkey Island

Return to Monkey Island is the X at the end of that specific treasure quest if you’re looking for a joyous and tough-as-nails puzzle game. The triumphant continuation of Ron Gilbert’s popular point-and-click adventure series. Lovers of the originals will find a lot to like here, from the same witty comedy to the mind-bogglingly difficult (but still enjoyable) puzzles to solve.

From start to finish, it’s a nostalgic task. You may need a helpful guide on your phone in case a certain area stumps you, but this in no way detracts from your enjoyment. And what about the joy of solving a puzzle on your own? The chef’s kiss.

Signalis

Signalis is a PS1-style sci-fi survival horror game. Yet its tribute to a bygone era of horror games goes beyond the surface. Signalis has a deep understanding of what made the first Resident Evil titles and Silent Hill such smash hits. It doesn’t rely on tank controls or a lot of jump scares – it’s a game with a tight atmosphere that understands how to use it well. Everything about the game, from the sci-fi theme to the fantastic sound design, enhances the (excellent) puzzles and survival management gameplay. Signalis is a must-try for genre fans.

Norco

Norco is a dystopian science fiction story about communal loss. It’s a point-and-click adventure game in the style of Kentucky Route Zero or Mutazione. It’s a very pessimistic novel about an universe (this world) struggling to cope with its own existence and misery. Despite being a gloomy game, Norco isn’t devoid of personality, boasting a lovable cast that makes peeling back the layers of its intricate universe a rich and satisfying experience. A must-have for anyone who values writing in games.

Pentiment

Looking at gameplay images of Pentiment isn’t enough to completely appreciate its allure, yet it does highlight the aesthetic flair seen throughout the game. Pentiment’s genre as a straightforward narrative adventure is an injustice to what Obsidian Studios has created here. Obsidian has long been renowned as a master of constructing immersive tales and grounded dialogue, and they demonstrate their talent here by selecting one of the most distinctive time periods and locations in gaming history.

You play as an artist aspiring to be a master in a Benedictine monastery church, and while this may sound like a dry atmosphere as a dusty old book, it is skillfully (pun intended) brought to life by Obsidian’s narrative abilities. We don’t want to give too much away, but if there was ever a game that you should take a chance on even if you knew nothing about it, it’s Pentiment.

Somerville

Elements of Somerville will surely appeal to fans of games like Limbo and Within. The game is really evocative, telling you the tale without using words through little character acts and background happenings. Yet, there are a few significant variations between what you’ll find in Somerville and, say, Within. Somerville, rather than being a 2D puzzle platformer, adds an additional dimension a like Little Nightmares.

You also have pals in the shape of your family and your dog with you. It’s a short game, so immersing oneself in this frightening scenario of an extraterrestrial invasion isn’t too difficult. It’s the ideal game to play if you enjoy simple puzzles (and chase sequences) combined with outstanding environmental narrative.

Prodeus

That feels like an enormous oversight not to have added Prodeus earlier. The untapped potential of this new twist on the iconic “boomer shooter” genre is obvious from the moment you open the menu. If you like the appearance of Doom (1993), but wish it was as fast and relevant as Doom Eternal, Prodeus is the game you’ve been looking for.

The narrative is sparse; you’re thrown into missions where you must eliminate demon-looking aliens or alien-looking demons. But the tale is irrelevant. Prodeus is all about the adrenaline thrill of gunplay. Like in the original Doom, you race across stages with a range of weaponry at your disposal. Despite being in early access, it already seems quite polished. Prodeus is a burst of joy that every lover of first-person shooters should experience.

Vampire Survivors

Vampire Survivors appears to be one of the easiest games you’ve ever heard of. You navigate your small Castlevania-style figure around the screen, gradually accumulating power-ups that activate automatically to combat the swarms of enemies that shamble around you. That’s pretty much the entire game. But if it isn’t the most absorbing game you could be playing right now, I don’t know what is. Vampire Survivors is the greatest roguelike this year, and it’s easy to get into and difficult to leave.

Originally accessible on PC, it is now also available on Xbox platforms. It’s a brilliant addition to the Game Pass repertoire. All too frequently, you may find yourself pondering what huge time commitment you should install and play next from the Game Pass collection. Vampire Survivors has the ease of use of a smartphone game and the polish of an arcade classic.

Amnesia: Collection

Amnesia: Collection technically includes three games: The Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs, and Justine. While some of the titles in this collection are more memorable than others, they are all terrific horror additions to the Xbox Game Pass library as a whole. The Amnesia series changed the concept of a tiny, independent horror game. Despite not having the same budget as a triple-A picture, The Dark Descent captivated and horrified us by brilliantly utilizing the materials it had.

Amazing voice acting and well-written in-game notes present us with an engaging story. And the atmosphere is unrivaled. The rare jump scare is delivered precisely, such that the suspense of wondering through the dark is punctuated with spikes of fear. The first game stands out, and the entire collection is worth the effort spent creeping through the disturbing tales only to experience the phenomenon that is and was Amnesia.

Soma

Frictional Games is well known for their indie horror thriller Amnesia: The Dark Descent. While Soma did not achieve the same levels of Let’s-Player popularity as its predecessor, it demonstrates great growth and polish. Soma’s story-telling quality is so high that revisiting The Dark Descent feels underwhelming in contrast. Players are skilfully faced with questions of awareness and morality, in addition to the terror and unsettling atmosphere you would expect from a Frictional game.

The idea alone is terrifying: trapped in the lowest depths of the ocean after an apocalypse has wiped off the remainder of civilization on the top. Yet, the shadowy passageways, eerie settings, and emphasis on running rather than fighting all combine to Soma being one of the greatest horror experiences available.

Persona 5

Persona 5 is unmistakably cool.

It doesn’t veer far from traditional JRPG aspects mechanically, but it’s such a dazzling game, with so much design and panache, that it seems astonishingly modern. It demonstrates how far art direction can go in bringing a gaming world to life. The tale revolves around a group of high school teenagers, each with their own ambitions and plans, who band together to stop the evil intentions of the adults around them. Despite its amazing length, going into any more information than that feels like a spoiler.

Suffice it to say, Persona 5’s narrative is riveting (and deep enough to warrant a sequel in a whole other genre), which is no surprise given that Persona 5 is already a game that crosses genres, including JRPG, social/romance sim, and even some light adventure components. Persona 5 is a definite must-play and a major release for Xbox Game Pass, despite its frightening length and typical spin on the genre.

Scorn

Scorn is a tough game to define since it combines aspects like walking simulators, horror games, puzzle games, and first-person shooters into a single, eerie title. Because Scorn is so difficult to nail down, it’s extremely probable that players will approach it anticipating one thing and receiving another.

Yet, if you go inside Scorn and simply let it do its thing, you’ll discover it to be one of the more intriguing experiences in the Xbox Game Pass collection. There is no dialogue telling you an extensive plot, no lore papers hiding in the cracks of the environment for you to study, and no hints if you get lost in a particular sector. While this may appear frightening, it is really one of the game’s finest features.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

While the game’s shift into action-RPG realm detracts from the franchise’s characteristics of stealth and action, the sheer amount of variation given through various weapons and fighting skills is a welcome departure from the established Assassin’s Creed standards.

The setting is nicely depicted. Odyssey’s open-world take on Ancient Greece is vivid, gorgeous, and jam-packed with material, whether you’re sailing or riding a horse. Of course, there is a lengthy main questline, but the quantity of side missions, whether radiant or story-based, borders on the ludicrous — yet it’s difficult to blame a game as ambitious as Odyssey for just having too much to do. Needless to say, you’ll be dealing with a deliciously deep timesink.

Costume Quest

Costume Quest is a family-friendly RPG set in a charming Halloween setting. It lacks intricate systems and deep advancement, but it more than makes up for it with adorable characters and excellent storytelling. The game depicts a group of youngsters dressed up for Halloween on a midnight excursion. Battles take place in turn-based situations with quick-time events similar to Paper Mario to add bonus damage or effects. The best part, of course, is watching the ensemble of characters embody the talents of their distinct outfits.

Costume Quest, which is chock-full of easter eggs and treasures, has more than enough fun to unpack for anybody searching for a theme-appropriate weekend of gaming. Lovers of Double Fine’s unique wit and joie de vivre should make way for their brief dip into scary season.

Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2 is a riot. Following a remarkably detailed tutorial in which the game teaches players how to properly wield huge broadswords (naturally clumsy weapons), players are thrust into a team-based multiplayer siege or battle royale in which all previous training is thrown out the window. Chivalry portrays the mayhem of 64 players with swords colliding and fighting for survival. There is nothing else like it.

Every participant in a battle has their own small piece of a noisy, nasty, and sometimes humorous medieval conflict, complete with a dedicated “scream”button. It may take some practice for any individual player to have an influence on the bigger war, but even the most cautious footsoldier will enjoy laying siege to a fortress.

Metal: Hellsinger

Shooting demons to the beat of some rippingly awesome metal music is enough to attract you to play Metal: Hellsinger, but having to do it to the exact beat of the song makes it a must-play in your Xbox Game Pass repertoire. Several games have tried to match the speed of their soundtracks with player movements, but few have felt as well as Hellsinger. Keep in mind that this is not a narrative-driven title like The Last of Us. If you’re playing Metal: Hellsinger, you’re doing it to shoot up hellish monsters while listening to some blood-pumping music.

It feels quite rewarding, nearly identical to the sensation of scrubbing a muck-ridden surface in PowerWash Simulator. The main difference is that Metal: Hellsinger is less soothing and more on the this-is-heckin-freakin-awesome side of things.

SpiderHeck

When you play SpiderHeck, chaotic enjoyment is the name of the game. Consider a considerably more hectic and neon-looking Super Smash Bros., replete with tiny spider buddies and bright weaponry to collect in the arena. It’s so simple to get into SpiderHeck, yet it’s difficult to put down.

SpiderHeck not only allows you to battle against friends on your couch or online strangers, but it also has a PvE mode where you and a squad work together to ward off robotic-looking opponents in the many map layouts accessible. Soaring about the supposedly low-gravity arenas with your webs and scampering across unsteady platforms may throw you off at first, but SpiderHeck will have you hooked, line, and sinker in no time.

Slime Rancher 2

Slime Rancher 2 is presently accessible on Xbox Game Pass as a game preview, but fans of the original will find a lot to like here, even if the game is incomplete. Nevertheless, make no mistake: Shipbreaker in Hardspace is usually about, well, smashing ships (in space). Hardspace: Shipbreaker isn’t for everyone, but lovers of desperate storylines or calming gameplay (see: PowerWash Simulator) should give it a shot.

Deathloop

Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda has already paid off, and the addition of Deathloop to Xbox Game Pass is simply another sign of the deal’s success. Arkane’s highly styled time loop game is now available for Xbox Series X|S players. Players are plunged into Colt Vahn’s perplexed thoughts when he wakes up on a beach only to discover he’s been trapped on an island that goes through a recursive cycle every day. What is his job? To break the cycle.

Deathloop has many features of Arkane’s immersive sim methodology, but many of them have been condensed to make space for a PvP experience. Other players can enter your game as Juliana, a character who is determined to keep the cycle going. It’s a fun title, and it shows Arkane’s desire to branch out from the genre for which they’re famous.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a love letter to Japanese role-playing games. It takes concepts from Dragon Quest, Pokemon, and Final Fantasy and weaves them into a classic narrative of exotic creatures, magnificent kingdoms, and wrathful witches. Not only is it a near-perfect summation of 30 years of JRPGs, but it’s also one of the most beautiful games ever developed, owing to Studio Ghibli’s graphics and animation (also known for their incredibly rich and lush world-building).

While Ni No Kuni does not revolutionize or evolve the genre, it is a game that puts its heart on its sleeve and does all it sets out to do. Several games attempt to recreate the enchantment of mid-90s console role-playing, but Ni No Kuni set the standard for JRPG nostalgia in 2013, and it has yet to be surpassed.

Sunset Overdrive

Many players may never get past Sunset Overdrive’s ‘attitude,’ which is filled with goofy fourth-wall-breaking comedy and wacky actions. Sunset Overdrive, on the other hand, would be a shame to reject because its stunning graphic style and pace make it one of the more enthralling open-world games accessible on Game Pass. While it did not raise the standard for the genre, it is a lovely family-friendly(ish) experience with some very innovative gameplay ideas and mechanics. Players in Kameo can morph into several magical creatures, each having their unique puzzle, fighting, and mobility skills (akin to the mask variants in Majora’s Mask). Anybody hoping to satisfy their Zelda cravings should give Kameo a go.

Unravel

Unravel’s excellent presentation is where it really shines. Everything from the images to the music and beyond is stunning without being one-note. And, most importantly, Unravel is a game that anybody who is comfortable using a controller to lead their player (in this case, a loving yarn doll named Yarny) from one border of the screen to the other can enjoy.

It’s a game that players will recognize, a pretty straightforward 2D puzzle platformer in the style of which players leap between obstacles and solve physics-based puzzles. The storyline might feel a little heavy-handed at times, but the totality of its elements elevates Unravel to one of the finest physics-based platforms of the previous decade.

The Gunk

The Gunk didn’t create much of an impression when it originally came out since it was a brief platforming game that didn’t break any limits. Yet, the simplicity of its design is appealing. It’s a simple game that feels like the equivalent of watching a familiar movie while closing off your brain. It doesn’t provide much in the way of excitement or a compelling story, but it also doesn’t require much of you.

If you want a short game that you can finish in one or two sittings, The Gunk is an excellent pick, since both its plot and gameplay add to its digestibility. All you have to do is figure out why the planet Becks and Rani arrived on was destroyed by the titular “gunk” in a brief platforming adventure with minimal puzzle-solving features. It’s as simple as that.

Coffee Talk

Visual novel games are uncommon in the Xbox Game Pass catalog, so when one appears, it’s reason for excitement. In Coffee Talk, players may enjoy being the patient listener to all of the imaginative clients who pass through their door. The game relies heavily on your conversational abilities, but it’s a laid-back experience that may be a welcome change of pace from the regular fare on Game Pass. And imagining what Seattle might be like if it were populated by “monsters” from popular fiction is as exhilarating as a hot cup of coffee.

ClusterTruck

Platformers often have you sprinting and jumping on sturdy platforms as hazards and perils thrust themselves at you. ClusterTruck reduces the risk of the surfaces you’re on by half. You’ll be hopping over and onto rushing semi-trucks in this hilariously aggressive platforming adventure. As you accelerate, the trucks collide, resulting in flaming explosions and microscopic pockets of “safe” trailer space for you to land on as you race to the finish line.

In short, it turns into a clustertruck. Despite the game’s rapid intensity, it’s a brief title that won’t leave you exhausted. Furthermore, there are some cool powers you can acquire along the route that will keep you eager to race past the next truck.

Two Point Campus

Few management simulations can compete with EA’s The Sims franchise in terms of flexibility and construction possibilities. Still, Two Point Hospital and the newer Two Point Campus are strong challengers. With the debut of Two Point Campus, developer Two Point Studios has produced one of the most interesting (and entertaining) management simulators presently available, and its position as a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass just sweetens the deal.

Run a school of your choice by delving into budgeting, scheduling extracurricular activities, and keeping track of tuition. You have the option of creating one of the finest educational institutions the world has ever seen, or you may succumb to chaos and create a learning environment that focuses on fun, sloth, or medieval crazy. Cooking Simulator doesn’t break any new ground, but it’s a solid addition to the Xbox Game Pass catalog.

Watch Dogs 2

Watch Dogs debuted to mixed reviews, but its sequel significantly improved on the first game’s mechanics, making it by far the superior game. Watch Dogs 2 is a funny “hacking” sandbox where you may wreak mayhem in a slightly future San Francisco as part of an activist organization known as DedSec, which is now accessible on Xbox Game Pass. Whilst the game seeks to address a few significant issues such as technology surveillance and privacy, that is not why you should play it.

When Watch Dogs 2 is at its best, you are inciting widespread havoc to achieve your goals and pulling it off flawlessly. Ditching the melancholy tone of the original game was the finest thing the franchise could have done, and while there are still some faults with the storyline in Watch Dogs 2, it’s still a good time.

Dicey Dungeons

Fans of current deck builders like Slay the Spire or Roguebook will recognize Dicey Dungeons’ easy-to-learn (but difficult-to-master) gameplay cycle. In it, players go through the levels, winning battles and earning cards/gear to give themselves an advantage in the final battle.

Within puts players in command of a young child attempting to flee an authoritarian and brutal environment. Inside’s visual style is aesthetically stunning, with severe black accents and shadows overcasting practically every vignette in the game’s 3-4 hour gameplay. Apart for a few spectacular setpiece moments that help unpack the game’s odd premise, the tale is conveyed silently.

All of this, along with developer Playdead’s now-signature macabre puzzle solutions and carnal aural design, results in an unmissable experience that lovers of 2D puzzle games must play, if they can stomach its severe and brutal world-building.

As Dusk Falls

If you like the cooperative, narrative-driven stylings of The Dark Pictures Anthology and wondered how that concept would translate into a hard-hitting drama, this is a must-see. When Dusk Falling chronicles the existential entanglements of numerous people’s lives during and after a botched heist turned hostage crisis, every action has far-reaching consequences.

Speaking of decisions, you’ll be making a lot of them — after all, the game’s fundamental mechanics revolve on them. And if you’re playing with pals (up to a whopping eight in total), As Dusk Falls has a couple more wonderful surprises up its sleeve. Choices are determined by vote, and if there is a tie, the game will decide for you at random. If you’re adamantly opposed to that kind of mayhem, each player has a limited amount of “overrides” that allow them to skip the majority vote. If that wasn’t enough to convince you, the game’s plot is profoundly, deeply branched, with every option and quick-time event outcome potentially taking you down a completely different road than the other. If you have a few pals and a few hours to kill, go ahead and check it out.

PowerWash Simulator

Who would have imagined that a game about cleaning up filthy environments and mud-splattered automobiles could be so satisfying? “But GameRant, how could a game mimicking a genuine day job offer one with a tingling sensation of utter zen when it focuses around such monotonous and exhausting labor?” you might ask. The actual answer, dear reader, is that PowerWash Simulator must be experienced to adequately convey the relief of blasting grime off the side of your friend’s grandma’s filthy bungalow, or watching the sun touch the surface of a freshly-scrubbed pavement for the first time in a decade.

Whilst it would be difficult for this gorgeously simple game to compete with titles like God of War or Elden Ring, it is the type of game that only comes around once in a lifetime. It’s not the game that anyone requested, but it’s the game that everyone requires.

Escape Academy

There is a secret thrill in the puzzle-solving that occurs when you and a group of people attempt to escape from an escape room, and Escape Academy captures that in a video game style. It’s not your typical puzzle game, though. Coin Crew Games has clearly gone out of its way to create a game experience that actually captures the type of thought that goes into a real-life escape room.

Of course, the primary premise of an escape room lends itself rather nicely to video game elements to begin with. The attractive design of Escape Academy, as well as the visual-novel-like interludes that construct the plot, truly bind the experience together into something totally distinct. Throw in the fact that you can solve the puzzles in co-op mode, and you’ve got yourself a few enjoyable hours ahead of you.

Road 96

Few games are as ambitious as Road 96; it combines a branching conversation storyline with procedural creation to produce a one-of-a-kind role-playing experience. Its ambition results in some uneven portions, but it succeeds far more than it fails.

It’s a game immersed in political debate, with adolescents attempting to flee their nation via the game’s nameake, Route 96. Unlike other narrative adventures, the player’s character isn’t guaranteed to survive the experience, but the cast of individuals encountered along the road each have their own narratives that progress with each attempt to escape.

House Flipper

Moreover, while the laborious nature of picking up garbage, scrubbing floors, arranging furniture, and pulling down walls occasionally outstays its welcome, there is a sense of accomplishment to be had after your vision for the given property has been realized.

Citizen Sleeper

Citizen Sleeper is a science fiction narrative adventure featuring RPG and survival aspects. With branching tales and limited time to finish questlines, the game’s storytelling is at the heart of the experience. From the start, players select one of many character archetypes, which determine their history and specialities.

As familiar as many of these genres and concepts may sound, Citizen Sleeper is difficult to define because to how freely it draws from so many. Gamers who are familiar with visual novels and current tabletop games will notice a number of recognizable concepts and ideas strewn throughout the game. And the game achieves a fantastic mix of gaming demands without interfering with the storyline.

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 takes place in a vast world full with perils from wildlife, enemies, and the nature itself. The way all of these hurdles connect in Far Cry creates one-of-a-kind emergent narrative where players must survive. Best of all, Far Cry 5 supports online co-op.

While Far Cry 5 does not deviate much from prior games in the series, it is set in the United States, which is a far cry from the jungles and mountains of the previous two iterations. It alone distinguishes Far Cry 5 from its predecessors and gives fans another reason to return to the battlefield.

Dead By Daylight

This has long been a noticeable missing from our list, and we are well aware of it. Dead By Daylight is one of the most popular asymmetrical multiplayer games available right now, and despite its humble indie beginnings, it has swiftly become a title to be reckoned with. Friday the 13th and Evil Dead: The Game are frequently compared to Dead By Daylight because they follow a similar pattern.

Participants can choose to play as either the Killer or the Survivors. Killers are terrible monsters with magical skills (some from popular existing IP) that aid them in their goal to capture and sacrifice the four Survivors. To flee the region and win the match, survivors must activate generators. While Death By Daylight is simple enough to describe, the thrills and terrors of hunting your prey or running from capture will have you going back for more.

NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection

The Ninja Gaiden series, which follows the exploits of ninja extraordinaire Ryu Hayabusa (and friends), is a hallmark for action-adventure games that don’t skimp on difficulty — it’s far from the most difficult action game you’ll ever play, but don’t expect it to hold your hand through the learning curve.

Whilst the word “ninja” may have you thinking you’re getting a stealth-action game, you’re in for a no-holds-barred fight. For the most part, slick, high-speed combinations against several adversaries, as well as wall-running parkour hijinks and the odd difficult boss fight, are the order of the day. Having said that, it undoubtedly sets a standard for combat-centric action games that many modern titles fail to reach.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Gather your TMNT memorabilia and prepare for one of the most satisfying classic beat-’em-ups to enter the Xbox Game Pass collection. You and up to five other players may engage in completely insane street brawls as the titular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles battle the Foot Clan. Shredder is up to his usual wicked schemes, and only a quartet of pizza-obsessed land turtles can stop him. The combat action will remind you of titles like Streets of Rage 4, and you’ll want to revisit this title over and again as you and your pals line up combination after combo. Because the game is so short, you’ll have to do this if you want to play it for more than two hours. Cowabunga!

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Whilst some may not think warmly of Assassin’s Creed Origins, no one can dispute that it is the Assassin’s Creed game that rocked the series’ structure to its core with new combat improvements and RPG elements. Ancient Egypt is vast and beautiful, making the numerous side tasks accessible to you more pleasurable simply because you may travel over such a beautiful terrain to find them. And discovering Bayek’s path and relationship to the Assassin brotherhood is riveting, as players get insight into the origins of this most hidden of groups.

TownScaper

In the first two minutes, new players can discern if TownScaper will be a nice curiosity or a full-time passion. Quantum Break

Quantum Break was not well received by the gaming community when it was first released. It’s jam-packed with full-length live-action TV program episodes that bookend each of the game’s chapters — all of which feel like they’re there to serve commercial considerations rather than artistic direction. However, Quantum Break looks beautiful, has a lot of fascinating superpowers to play with, and tells an engaging tale (albeit an often silly one). Quantum Break, like many Microsoft exclusives from the early Xbox One period (See: Ryse: Son of Rome and ReCore), is an underappreciated but fascinating single-player experience.

Dead Cells

Dead Cells is a perfectly polished 2D action-platformer that follows in the footsteps of classics such as Castlevania and Spelunky. Over a particular run, players earn additional skills and powers with the goal of clearing the entire game in a single run. It’s hard for the faint of heart, but Dead Cells is an amazingly rewarding game to play through with enough tenacity. Dead Cells is a must-have for aficionados of the genre, with pixel-perfect controls and accuracy.

Pac-Man Museum+

Pac-Man is one of the world’s most popular arcade games. Pac-Man, the classic yellow, pellet-eating mascot, has appeared in more gaming incarnations than we can count, and Pac-Man Museum+ collects the best of the lot in one collection. This package collects fourteen games from the franchise for you to play again and over. Pac-unlimited Man’s replayability is part of the fun, and having different samples from the game over the years is a terrific way to respect its heritage. This is also a day one Xbox Game Pass launch, so subscribers should take advantage of this most generous of offerings.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Although being the third game in the Dragon Age series, Inquisition stands on its own and is an excellent starting point for lovers of big open-world RPGs. The sophisticated mythology and world-building RPG fans have come to anticipate from high fantasy games like Skyrim and The Witcher. Needless to say, all of this is complemented by BioWare’s famous language and interaction systems, making it simple to lose track of time exploring a still-awe-inspiring fantasy world.

Farming Simulator 22

What do you think the world needs more of? More Farming Simulator games are required. No, I’m not joking. The Farming Simulator series is the only game that successfully mixes the semi-relaxing quality of farming with the genuine stress of trying to make everything function. Add in a splash of comedy at some of the inevitable blunders you’ll make, and you’re in for a real treat. Farming Simulator 22 is the newest in the series, and having it in the Xbox Game Pass collection is a treat. You know where to go if you want to work on an entertaining agricultural sim.

Trek To Yomi

Trek to Yomi is a distinctively stylised side-scrolling hack-and-slash that will appeal to your inner samurai. Drawing substantially (and unapologetically) from Akira Kurosawa’s cinematic stylings, players take on the role of warrior-in-training Hiroki and embark on a vengeance journey when robbers demolish his town and murder his instructor in cold blood.

Warfare-themed games frequently show one side as the undisputed adversary. TWoM masterfully portrays war as the all-encompassing opponent.

Bugsnax

Bugsnax is one of the greatest current adventure games for players of all ages. Completely finished. It’s Muppets meets Pokemon and all heart. (Plus the game’s voice cast is fantastic at bringing the gaming world to life).

Following a crash landing on a mystery island, the player is confronted with a new species (Bugsnax) and a lovable ensemble of cranky individuals (Grumpus). The majority of the game is spent reconciling the Grumpus by solving puzzles to catch their favorite Bugsnax in ingenious ways, while also attempting to discover the mystery of the Bugsnax’s strange origin – which does not disappoint.

7 Days To Die

Since 2013, developer The Fun Pimps has been hard working on this ambitious survival-horror project. It has already gone through multiple incarnations before making its console debut in 2016, and its inclusion on Game Pass makes it more accessible than before. 7DTD is a “hardcore survival” version of Minecraft. Players are dropped directly into the midst of the zombie apocalypse and asked to make the most of it using a variety of intricately layered crafting and construction mechanics. And when we say “hardcore survival,” we really mean it.

Aside from the constant threat of roaming zombies, you must contend with a never-ending food and water meter, a wellness gauge that can reduce your overall health and stamina if you don’t take care of yourself, and a grueling day-night cycle that has you literally counting the minutes until the sun rises. 7 Days To Die doesn’t care if you’re new to the game and have no idea what’s going on. It will put you in scenarios where you acquire food sickness from what you thought were bunches of wonderful, ready-to-eat berries, or you fall into a punji pit you forgot you just made since the nights are too dark to see anything without a light, attracting a horde to your location. In short, it’s a great game that you should try.

Doom 64

To say the least, seeing a reworked edition of Doom 64 appear with the 2020 release of Doom Eternal was unexpected. Even die-hard Doom fans may have missed this one due to it being limited to the Nintendo 64 – a situation well-resolved by its latest port, and further alleviated by its inclusion on the Game Pass roster. It’s a basic conventional Doom experience, but the lighting, ambiance, and more puzzle-oriented level design give it a more meditative mood than the 1993 original’s thrash-metal stylings. It also comes with some nifty extra information that connects it to the events of Doom 2016 and Eternal, thereby “canonizing” it. Whether you’re an old-school Doom fan who never got to play it due to its limited system selection, or a new fan seeking for a taste of the old days and a sly mythology treat, Doom 64 is well worth a download.

Life Is Strange: True Colors

True Colors is the fourth installment in the Life Is Strange series, and it wears many of the lessons learnt in earlier installments on its sleeve. It still follows a player with supernatural abilities (this time an empath named Alex), but the game is mostly confined to a single tiny town, giving the game’s setting time to develop into a character in its own right. The storyline of the game is based around a tiny village, which serves to ground the whole plot and generates stakes for every individual the player meets (not just the leads).

True Colors doesn’t innovate the Life Is Strange template, but it’s an exceptionally confident game that anyone who appreciates narrative adventure games should not miss.

Lost In Random

EA Play has made this gem of a game available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users. Whilst its fighting systems are nothing to write home about, Lost in Random’s landscape and narrative make it a must-play title on its own. Every publication praises it for its Tim Burton-esque influences, yet that alone does not do credit to the deliciously macabre essence of Lost in Random’s plot. A dark, twisted adventure awaits around every corner in a world where a person’s actions are dictated by the roll of a dice and your primary character is half of a twin-sister pair dubbed Even and Odd.

Crusader Kings III

It’s difficult to imagine a more complicated game than Crusader Kings 3. The grand strategy game immerses players in an intertwining military-political narrative set during the Middle Ages. The events of a Crusader Kings game, like those of the popular 4X title Civilisation, would span generations, requiring players to ponder the effects of their decisions across many lifetimes rather than individual years.

In contrast to Civ, Crusader Kings is a historical simulation in which the lives of people within a specific Dynasty are detailed and have a significant effect on the game’s events. Those who can get their brains around the game’s multiple mechanics will be treated to a really one-of-a-kind experience, given the game’s stunning richness. Nevertheless, be warned: it will take a lot of lessons, tool-tips, and blunders to completely comprehend the game’s complexities.

Weird West

Yet confining it to that comparison is unreasonable given the eclectic mix of gaming delights it borrows for its final output — Metroidvania and even Dark Souls-style fighting feature in exactly the right amounts. And its vulpine heroine rises to the occasion with delightful flair. Hence, while Tunic may appear to be an indie Legend of Zelda experience, it more than lives up to the high standards set by its triple-A inspiration.

Shredders

Shredders’ surroundings carry you over a snowboarder’s icy dreamscape, from cold mountaintops to snow-covered city roofs to genuine, authentic snowboarding courses. In essence, this game is a snowboarder’s fantasy. There are no gimmicks or very precise controls. Shredders is a simplistic snowboarding game at its core. There’s snow, boards, and the soundtrack says “womp womp woop woop,” so that’s perfectly on point. The truly captivating images of the snow itself stand out. It may appear to be a cheap commentary cop-out, but there’s something ridiculously thrilling about seeing the shower of powder and the way your board carves distinct furrows through the packed drifts.

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War

Despite some initial backlash, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is a very exciting addition to the principles established by its predecessor. Shadow of War’s excellent fighting and character advancement will be familiar to anybody who has played the original (or any of the newer Batman Arkham titles). While the narrative will mostly appeal to Lord of the Rings enthusiasts, the breadth of the world and the franchise’s now-famous Nemesis system set it apart in a crowded genre. With a new Lord of the Rings television series on the coming, there’s never been a better moment to return to Middle-Earth.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

To begin with the obvious, Morrowind has not aged gracefully – the images are more than a little ragged, and the Interface might appear intimidating to the inexperienced. It is, however, a distinct piece of old-school RPG charm that neatly underscores why The Elder Scrolls became an industry juggernaut, and it is guaranteed to satisfy your throwback desires. Morrowind might be cruel at times, but it’s impossible to find a more immersive Elder Scrolls title. With limited quick travel and mission markers, players must carefully plan their route from point A to point B when doing a task. Vvardenfell’s nearly-alien scenery and architecture feel out of place among usual fantasy trappings, and the rather merciless nature of its open-world and combat encounters may generate a true sense of peril. It’s really worth the journey, especially if you’re a Skyrim fan who hasn’t explored the previous titles.

Doom (1993)

Is it really necessary to start with an introduction? Doom has arrived. With its pixelated portrayals of high-octane ultraviolence and spherical meatball demons from the evil place below, the 1993 blockbuster transformed a genre, if not video gaming as a whole.

The updated version Bethesda has slapped on Game Pass includes some cool new features like a restricted mod roster and split-screen cooperative/competitive gaming. Whether you’re searching for a nostalgic romp to better contextualize what makes Doom 2016 and Eternal so special, or a fun, easy-to-slide-in split screen FPS experience to entertain yourself and up to three buddies for an evening, this is the game for you.

The Sims 4

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate customers may now play the latest Sims game thanks to the arrival of EA Play (at least until the long-awaited and highly anticipated Sims 5 gets announced). Despite important features were lacking at launch, The Sims 4 has evolved through time and with the power of meaningful additions to become the game fans both deserved and needed. For those who are unfamiliar, The Sims games are essentially “life simulators.” You steer your Sims through what would otherwise be the humdrum hijinks of every life – emphasis on the word “otherwise.” Because living in The Sims universe is far from routine. Whether you’re cuddling up with your vampire neighbors or attempting to defraud the Grim Reaper of his due when your Sim’s time is up, The Sims 4 transforms the mundane into something amazing, amusing, and simply entertaining.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Arkham Asylum, the first game in the Arkham Trilogy, established the standard for what fans should expect from a superhero game. While Arkham Knight wasn’t as well reviewed as the previous game, it still serves as a terrific climax to the series, especially for casual Batman fans.

Everything, from the story to the fighting and aesthetics, has stood the test of time, a tribute to Rocksteady’s outstanding design. The game’s exhilarating combo system remains unrivaled, and the plot does an excellent job of bringing gamers up to speed (even if they haven’t played the other two games in the trilogy). Batman: Arkham Knight symbolizes nearly a decade of open-world superhero invention (and iteration) and should not be overlooked.

Burnout Paradise Remastered

The open-world racing genre was popularized by Burnout Paradise, paving the door for award-winning titles like Forza Horizon. The original edition of the game was launched in 2009, thus it is showing its age, but the remaster modernizes it for the twenty-first century.

Despite its age, no game since has matched Burnout Paradise’s feeling of place and unadulterated pace. Crashing has an effect. Because there are no licensed automobiles, vehicles might collapse on impact and display wear and tear as the race progresses. Broken Age

Death’s Door takes you on a journey with an employee of the Reaping Commission Headquarters, and while this may sound tedious, the engaging gameplay and compelling narrative turn this into a genuine adventure despite its bureaucratic concept. There’s a mystery here for you to solve, but Death’s Door is more than just a narrative. Everyone may immerse oneself in the amazing settings thanks to the outstanding graphic design and simple combat mechanics. Death’s Door is a very approachable game that tackles serious topics with a fantastic sense of humour. You may not expect a crow wielding magic and a sword to be so remarkable, but Death’s Door demonstrates otherwise.

Maneater

They say there’s always a larger fish in the sea. The fish is sometimes a shark! Maneater is the decade’s best shark simulation game. That may not be a fiercely competitive area to enter, but it is an intriguing thought. The game puts you in the shoes (or fins) of a shark seeking vengeance when the creators of a shark-hunting television show harm and murder her mother. Nevertheless, in order to grow large enough to exact your razor-toothed wrath, you must develop and unlock new skills by… well, devouring fish (and the rare person). Unfortunately, other predators and even shark-hunting bounty hunters may try to block your blood-soaked goal, but tenacity is essential to a shark’s life in all things. Overall, Maneater is a unique simulation idea that is well worth investigating. Even if it’s only to claim you’ve been a shark.

Hitman World Of Assassination

Nothing blends badassery and pure humor quite like the Hitman series. Hitman World of Assassination is included in Agent 47’s three core titles and will keep gamers entertained for hours as they figure out the many various ways to eliminate their targets. Never worry, these outmoded aspects have been updated and enhanced in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which is now accessible to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members as part of the EA Play library. Fans of the epic sci-fi series will be able to relive Commander Shepard’s perilous journey to halt the galaxy-consuming Reapers. Among Us is the could-be indie hidden-role game. Mortal Kombat 11

MK11, the next installment in NetherRealm Studios’ time-honored arcade fighter series, maintains the hallmark of deceptively complicated gameplay and absolutely over-the-top brutality in superb form. The single-player story mode begins shortly after the defeat of Shinnok in Mortal Kombat X, and introduces a new antagonist in Kronika, a time-manipulating trickster of god-like power who seeks to undo history itself — in other words, your typical baddie who’s about to break the world unless you beat up a slew of friends and foes to get at her. The cast is comprised of the regular ensemble of old favorites – from Scorpion to Raiden, the crew is all there. There are also a few newcomers: Cetrion returns as a selectable character this time, and DLC packs add new characters such as Robocop and even Rambo himself. The gameplay is as fluid as ever, with MK 11’s almost comically extensive tutorial standing out. It’s a must-play for newbies to the fighting game world, as the tutorials teach down popular techniques in meticulous and enlightening detail.

Unpacking

Unpacking covers the lives of one person, from their first bedroom at their parents’ house through their first apartment and beyond. In it, players unpack their whole life one box at a time, getting to know all of their personal belongings and experiencing the strangely rewarding delight of setting each item where it’s intended to go one by one. Mechanically, it’s a really basic game, but it also packs a lot of narrative into a relatively short experience with little to no text or narration.

Unpacking is an outstanding hidden treasure on Xbox Game Pass and is a wonderful wind-down game for gamers searching for something more easygoing in gameplay and narrative.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is without a doubt one of the most serene experiences available in its genre. That’s a big statement when it comes to agricultural simulators, but there’s so much more than that. SDV confronts players with heading out to the countryside to rebuild their grandfather’s farm after inheriting it — like one does in a farming sim — with dashes of dating sim and vintage action-RPG tossed in for good measure. Throughout the course of their time in the Valley, players will raise crops, discover romance, help the people with their many concerns, delve into the mines to fight monsters and free wealth, and much more. But, one of the nicest aspects about Stardew is the easygoing sense of growth. At no time are players compelled to advance the plot; instead, they are free to live their lives as they see fit, selling turnips, rearing goats, hatching dinosaur eggs, and smashing slimes.

Kill It With Fire

Do you despise spiders? Put them out with fire. Or perhaps clipboards. Or high-capacity magnum revolvers. You can kill spiders with a variety of methods, and Kill It With Fire demonstrates a wide range of spider elimination techniques. The game casts you as a simple homeowner with one simple goal: eliminate the spiders infesting your home by any means necessary. Spiders may lurk behind every nook and corner, and keeping track of the many pieces of furniture and décor you’ll topple in chase of your arachnid opponents is perhaps more important than the spiders themselves. As you go through the stages, you’ll discover a slew of new spider-killing tools. It’s a lovely indie adventure that’s definitely worth a few hours of your time.

Halo Infinite

Anybody with a Computer or an Xbox console may participate in the online multiplayer component of the current Halo game. Gamers may have the pleasure of their lives by jumping into a Large Team Battle or a rated Arena battle. Well-designed levels, new weaponry, and fun game types keep Halo Infinite feeling new. It simply caters to Halo enthusiasts in every way. In addition, Xbox Game Pass users may access the campaign experience. Forza Horizon has always done an excellent job of combining the attraction of arcade races like Burnout with the realistic precise controls of Motorsport titles. Horizon 5 is no exception, and it also happens to be one of the most visually appealing games available on next-generation systems.

Horizon 5 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, with players exploring an open environment and completing a range of missions and races. Mexico has no shortage of beautiful places to visit while preparing for the Horizon Festival. There’s so much to do in this game that it’s almost too simple to select a route, start driving, and discover something noteworthy on the Horizon.

It Takes Two

It Takes Two is a terrific game, but calling it a single game is a bit deceptive. It crosses so many genres that it feels like numerous games in one. Not only does it give subscribers with more than they may expect, but it also delivers one of the finest cooperative experiences of the decade. Gamers play as Cody and May, a married couple on the verge of divorce. There are even several varieties of “Ridden,” as Back 4 Blood refers to its zombies, to battle with along the way. This may appear obtuse and ambiguous, yet it is executed brilliantly. When held correctly, a little item might appear as enormous as a house. For example, taking a Coke can and holding it directly in front of your face might make it appear larger than it is. Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition

The Gears of War brand is synonymous with third-person cover-based shooters with a heavy emphasis on cooperative action, but the original titles are beginning to show their age. This is what makes Gears of War: Ultimate Edition a brilliant Game Pass purchase – it allows gamers to revisit the series’ beginnings with a new coat of paint and some nice quality-of-life enhancements. The visuals have been improved overall, adversaries can now be observed, and weapons may be exchanged while running from cover to cover. Apart from these enhancements, the Ultimate Edition allows players to see the beginning of Marcus Fenix’s quest and reintroduces the chainsaw-action of the Lancer, the series’ trademark weapon. What more could a Gears of War fan ask for?

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a one-of-a-kind gaming experience. It captures the struggle of living with insanity while still telling a poignant narrative. You play as Senua, a Viking warrior who wishes to visit Helheim and lay her lover’s spirit to rest. Her voyage is perilous, as the voices in her brain harass her (and the player) with doubts and counsel. Senua’s footsteps are haunted by grotesque hallucinations. While her mission is difficult and frequently makes you wonder if the entire thing is worth it, it ends in one of the most rewarding endings in game history. Hellblade demonstrates that fighting your own demons is an honorable struggle.

For Honor: Marching Fire Edition

When you combine the combat system of a hack-and-slash RPG with that of a fighting game, you get For Honor. The gameplay may appear heavy-handed and melodramatic at first, with an over-the-top cast of vikings, knights, and samurai brandishing an arsenal of lethal weaponry — but scratch the surface and you’ll discover subtle movesets balanced by smart blocking and parry mechanisms. The game has a suitably hamfisted narrative mode, but the true value is its array of multiplayer offerings: heart-pounding one-on-one duels, chaotic team skirmishes, and even a few PVE parts all provide their own distinct experiences.

Golf With Your Friends

Golf has never been more enjoyable or stressful than in Golf With Your Friends. This casual golfing title may appear to be a fun co-op experience for a group of buddies to enjoy. Yet, underneath the deceptively calm surface is a volatile and furious game that will shatter friendships rather than clubs. Because of the difficulty of the courses, it is now impossible to ease a golf ball into a hole. An plethora of jaw-dropping hazards, ranging from water falls to ghosts to black holes, lie in the way of making par. Is it inconvenient to sink every stroke on the same hole? Yes. Is it simple to become dazzled by new courses? Very emphatically. Is the game a lot of fun to play? Always.

Gears Tactics

Fans of turn-based strategy games such as XCOM or Fire Emblem may scoff at the thought of turning the action-packed Gears of War brand into a tactics game, but the outcome is an amazing first step into the genre. Gears has always been about player positioning, flanking, and coordinated strikes – the transition to top-down strategy game is remarkable.

Fans of strategy games who have never played a Gears title should definitely take the time to play Gears Tactics. In terms of intricacy, the game finds an outstanding balance. Veterans will be pleasantly delighted by some of the extremely detailed modifications and alterations given, while newcomers to the turn-based strategy genre will not feel overwhelmed.

Doom (2016)

Doom (2016) was the necessary reboot for the franchise to show to the world that it was still relevant. Doom was long thought to be a game of a bygone period, influential but no longer in its prime. With the creation of Doom, Id Software revolutionized everything (2016). The Doom Slayer sprang back to life, ripping and shredding a fresh path across the gaming universe. This remake not only brought Doom back into the public consciousness, but it also demonstrated that a well-crafted and vigorously enjoyable single-player campaign can lure gamers just as much as, if not more than, another battle royale. Fans of fast-paced shooters and action-packed gameplay should not miss Doom (2016).

Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Let’s get this out of the way right away: Yakuza: Like a Dragon is an excellent starting point for anyone unfamiliar with the Yakuza series. It’s a completely new cast of characters in a completely new setting. Obviously, there are allusions to the rest of the franchise, but nothing interferes with beginners’ enjoyment. Unlike the other Yakuza games, Like a Dragon is a JRPG in the spirit of Dragon Quest or vintage Final Fantasy, replete with a lovable cast of characters on a noble mission. What genre aficionados won’t anticipate is how effortlessly these clichés translate to a modern-day criminal drama about rediscovered family. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a lot of fun, humorous, and a lot of fun to play. Don’t pass it up!

Microsoft Flight Simulator

The breathtaking scenery of the planet is motivation enough to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, since it fully tests the capabilities of Microsoft’s current generation of Xbox systems. Yet, in addition to the stunning portrayal of the entire world, the game allows players to put their piloting talents to the test with its straightforward, realistic aircraft controls. A selection of accurately depicted airplanes are at your disposal, along with interactive features and instrumentation that add to the already impressive simulation title’s feeling of immersion. Go to the skies in a range of weather and environmental circumstances to earn your wings your way.

Gang Beasts

Co-op fun of any kind is always welcome in the Xbox Game Pass library, and subscribers can now rejoice at the addition of Gang Beasts to an already crowded list of terrific titles. The furious thrashings are made humorous and appealing by goofy wrestling in crazy clothes. From outdoor elevators to churning factory floors to an active subway tunnel, the venues on which players battle each other are simple in form but bizarre in idea. Dipping into a game of Gang Beasts is quite amusing, making this humorous title a must-play for anybody looking for a fumbling skirmish.

Injustice 2

The famous mechanics of the Mortal Kombat franchise’s more recent installments were wonderfully combined with the DC Universe in Injustice. NetherRealm’s basic bread-and-butter was already superpowered characters trading bone-shattering punches, so this should come as no surprise. The sequel simply refines an already explosive formula — from iconic mainstays like Batman and Superman to relatively deep digs like Blue Beetle and Atrocitus, the roster is brimming with heroic and villainous choices that are sure to delight the significant intersections between DC and fighting-game fans.

Hollow Knight

The exploration and real sense of discovery in Hollow Knight are undoubtedly among the greatest in the genre. It’s a brilliant example of how to build a contemporary Metroidvania. Hollow Knight never sacrifices mystery or world-building for padding side missions or game-changing upgrades.

The game stays solemn, enchanting, and deceptively difficult throughout. It obviously takes a leaf from the Dark Souls series, so be prepared to tread carefully in new sections and memorize every boss’ routine.

Halo Wars 2

Halo’s first step into real-time strategy was clearly a departure for the established FPS behemoth, particularly on consoles. The controls were readily mapped for controllers, and the simplified gameplay made it an excellent RTS title for fans of both the genre and the core Halo franchise. Halo Wars 2 didn’t repair what wasn’t broken, but it did add enough subtlety to the concept to make it a good follow-up.

On the surface, it’s a solid RTS title. The devil, though, is in the details : Halo Wars 2 has a surprisingly well-crafted cooperative option for tackling its campaign, and said campaign manages to retain the bombast and grandeur anticipated of a Halo title despite the radical change in genre. Furthermore, the highly anticipated Halo Infinite appears to be drawing on lore elements introduced in Halo Wars 2 (specifically, the antagonistic Covenant rebel faction known as the Banished), so it’s well worth your time to catch up on the opposing forces arrayed against the Master Chief in the upcoming game.

Human Fall Flat

Human Fall Flat is a puzzle game and a platformer in one. Players must navigate a sequence of weird dreamscapes centered on a single subject. Each level includes unique mechanics that are essential for navigating the surroundings’ distinct shape. The sometimes strange conceptual underpinning of the levels itself, along with the always humorous execution of the game’s mechanics, almost guarantees an amusing time, but the problems themselves are well created. The experience is enhanced when played with one or more pals – jointly discussing puzzle solutions is surprisingly invigorating… when you’re not busy figuring out fresh and interesting ways to send each other into bottomless holes.

Psychonauts

The original Psychonauts was the epitome of “hidden treasure” when it premiered in 2005. Despite critical praise, the hilarious puzzle/platformer did not find a large audience until many years later. There’s never been a better moment to go through one of Double Fine’s most beloved titles, with a sequel finally available (fifteen years and three system generations later). Lovers of 3D open-world platformers, collectathons, and adventure games will feel right at home in Psychonauts’ setting. Not only is it one of the funniest games ever developed (together with Portal), but the level design equals some of Nintendo’s finest worlds.

Grim Fandango

Players in Grim Fandango explore and solve puzzles in a film noir rendition of the Land of the Dead. It is without a doubt one of the most distinctive and distinct titles in the Xbox Game Pass library. Grim Fandango’s sheer originality makes it a joy to experience, but that’s not its only selling point. The game has a fantastic aesthetic and feeling of location, but it also features equally interesting people to back it up. But be cautious! As fantastic as Grim Fandango’s environment and narrative are (and they still are today), it is worth noting that this is a traditional adventure game. Even with the enhanced edition on Game Pass, there’s very little hand-holding. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with checking up a riddle or two.

Banjo-Kazooie

Star Wars: Squadrons

EA’s track record with Star Wars franchises may have just reached a low point, but Squadrons contributes to their redemption storyline admirably. Whilst the title suggests a connection to the legendary N64 title, Squadrons is unquestionably a more immersive kind of space flight simulator. Nonetheless, when compared to Elite Dangerous, it’s arguably one of the most approachable recent entrants in the genre.

Fable 2

When Fable 2 was released in 2008, it received critical acclaim on par with Bethesda’s Fallout 3 – no small achievement given the latter’s outstanding pedigree. Fable 2 isn’t a big 80-hour open-world RPG with limitless potential. Yet, the choices players make and the effects they have on the world feel more palpable than in many recent games with branching narratives. The environment of Fable 2 invokes whimsy and wonder, yet it never seems toothless or childlike. It’s a terrific way to get a flavor of the universe Lionhead and Peter Molyneux developed before the Microsoft Studios series revival arrives on the Xbox Series X|S.

Prey

Immersion in a science-fiction universe as well-crafted as Prey’s is an experience unlike any other. Players are placed in the head of Morgan Yu and must solve the mysteries of the Talos I space station disaster. The Typhon, a weird alien life form, has taken over, and Morgan must deal with the odd threat they bring to the humans that remain on the station. Arkane Studios masterfully integrates elements of Dishonored, BioShock, and Soma, letting players to select how they want to approach difficulties. They can move stealthily, upgrade weaponry and charge in guns blazing, get nearly supernatural powers through Neuromods, or utilize the handy GLOO Cannon to combat the Typhon threat. Prey’s popularity stems not just from the immersive world of its narrative, but also from the wide range of playstyle possibilities available to its players.

Stellaris

Grand strategy games are a valuable commodity on consoles since the genre’s inherent intricacy and highly layered interfaces do not transition well. Stellaris, on the other hand, defies expectations. After choosing (or producing) their ideal civilisation, players take command as it finds faster-than-light (FTL) travel and begins its voyage among the stars. The overall objective is to create galactic dominion, whether via military power, political intrigue, or economic scheming. Yet, as the phrase goes, the trip is more important than the goal. The sheer number of conceivable events that might occur as you lead your civilisation to triumph is absolutely remarkable. Every found planet and unmapped region of the cosmos hides events ranging from the amusingly weird to the terrifyingly apocalyptic. Players will pursue clues left behind by ancient predecessor civilizations, interact with various alien cultures, explore the furthest regions of known space, and much more. There will never be two identical games.

Fallout 4

Bethesda’s latest take on the ultimate post-apocalyptic roleplaying experience isn’t without its haters, but it’s difficult to argue that anybody is receiving a raw deal by including it on Game Pass. As the Lone Survivor of Vault 111, players are tasked with finding their son after he is kidnapped from the vault by an unknown band of mercenaries and scientists. It’s a straightforward and high goal, but when you consider a radioactive wasteland teeming with scary monsters, raiders, and long-abandoned ruins concealing crucial supplies, it’s clear that the journey will be difficult. Fallout 4 received a large (and reasonable) amount of criticism for its linear storyline and clunky conversation navigation, but there’s still a lot to like.

It’s difficult to describe a nuclear-wrecked wasteland as “beautiful,” but Bethesda’s hallmark open-world appeal remains intact. From the ruins of Boston to the Glowing Sea, the Commonwealth provides a captivating setting. Additionally, as is customary, there is an almost infinite quantity of stuff for players to explore and discover. When combing over vanilla material loses its luster, one may resort to an excellent and easily accessible array of modifications to liven up their experience by harnessing the modding community’s limitless inventiveness.

Forza Horizon 4

Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris Effect has a touch of added magic that elevates it above being just another rendition of the 1984 tile-matching hit. Of course, at its core, this is Tetris, which requires no explanation. Tetris Effect’s crowning achievement is its nearly 2-hour-long “Journey Mode,” which transports players through a succession of audio-visual vignettes. They fall between between a live performance with electric lighting and lasers and a visit to a cutting-edge planetarium. Tetris Effect: Connected is the whole package, including a multiplayer mode and a fantastic version of the original game.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2’s quiet presence in the FPS genre is perplexing, given that it received widespread critical praise upon its initial release. Since then, its ardent fans have quietly argued that it remains one of the most solid shooters to have ever reached the market. To be honest, they have a lot going on to support that viewpoint. The campaign is almost as good as the multiplayer, with the former crafting a captivating sci-fi story around pilot-in-training Cooper and his cantankerous giant robot companion, BT-7274.

Huge mechs and wall-running mechanics go a long way on their own, but Respawn’s take on the FPS paradigm feels polished in a way that many modern shooters don’t — and is more than largely responsible for Apex Legends’ incredible overnight popularity.

The Walking Dead

Telltale’s The Walking Dead catapulted the company to fame, as well as popularizing the graphic adventure genre today. Telltale’s version on The Walking Dead is first presented from the perspective of former inmate Lee, whose route to jail is interrupted by the zombie outbreak, capitalizing on the popularity of The Walking Dead following its adaption into a phenomenally successful television series. The spotlight eventually changes to little Clementine and chronicles her transformation into a smart survivor toughened by the miseries of the post-apocalypse. During the game, the emerging narrative bends and evolves in response to the player’s decisions, making every dialogue option seem urgent and significant while assuring that no two playthroughs end up conveying the same tale.

Ori & The Will Of The Wisps

Mass Effect 2

Despite the fact that further titles were launched after it, Mass Effect 2 remains the series’ apex. The Normandy SR-2 crew, led by Commander Shepard, faces a catastrophic danger to the galaxy. The Reaper threat is spreading, and gamers must adopt the role of Commander Shepard in order to combat it.

Mass Effect 2 is certainly BioWare at its best, with engrossing battle scenes, interesting character dialogue, and a high-stakes tale that closes on a memorable note. Despite its age, this classic RPG is still enjoyable to play.

The Evil Within

The cinematic approach to the genre contributes significantly to The Evil Within’s appeal. This unsettling atmosphere is essential for immersing gamers in Detective Sebastian Castellanos’ descent into utter terror. Sebastian, trapped in the mind of a vicious killer, is greeted with horrible sights at every step, and players are charged with going ahead regardless of the next nightmare that awaits them. The Evil Within, reminiscent of the Resident Evil series, forges its own identity with violent visuals that borders on hallucinatory and a fighting system that is as calculated as it is thrilling. If you can get the courage to read this spine-chilling work, The Evil Within’s established approach on horror makes it difficult to put down.

Sea Of Thieves

Despite initial criticism for a lack of content, Sea of Thieves has progressively accrued additional in-game activities for players to undertake as it sails along. Rare’s brilliantly vivid pirate simulator drops you upon a pier with a ship and leaves you to your own devices. The game doesn’t drive you in any one direction, whether you cruise about accomplishing work for one of the trading corporations, seeking out other players for some PVP thrills, or just bounce around from island to island fighting skeletons with no specific goal in mind. But, this is part of what makes it so appealing. It may be played individually, but you’ll want to gather a group of friends before jumping in. The pirate’s life shines brightest when shared with a few devoted crewmates.

Skyrim

For decades, The Elder Scrolls has been linked with the notion of open-world RPGs, and Skyrim is the title to display if a demonstration is necessary. All jokes aside, the Dragonborn’s mission to destroy Alduin is a spectacle rarely matched by RPGs in general, thanks in part to the fact that it contains as many chapters as the player desires. Skyrim’s freezing region is unforgivingly beautiful, and the number of “optional” material is practically limitless. When you combine that with the bold choice to make a vast library of user-generated modifications available on Xbox systems, you get what is possibly the most content-rich game presently available on Game Pass.

A Way Out

A Way Out separates itself from virtually every other game on the market by making co-op not just an option, but the focal point of the experience. The emphasis is on “important,” because it cannot be performed in single-player mode. Players assume the roles of Vincent and Leo, two convicts plotting an escape from the jail where they are now incarcerated. They have no idea where their quest will lead them.

A Way Out puts gamers on an unusual, if occasionally unpleasant, trip. Apart from the stiff speech and forced emotional moments, the brilliantly ludicrous plot and weirdly connected (but completely entertaining) mini-games weave together an amusing experience for you and your chosen companion.

Doom Eternal

Overcooked 2

Finding the right co-op game might be difficult, but Overcooked 2 has you covered. Up to four players can bumble around different kitchens making traditional foods in this pure delight of a game.

As each kitchen must be cleansed within a particular time limit, hilarity erupts. Overcooked 2 adds obstacles to the mix by incorporating secret stages and more stars to acquire if the game feels easy after the initial gameplay. Join the Onion King and his loyal dog Kevin in their quest to stop the Unbread after they were raised with the Necro-nom-nom-icon. It’s a delicious adventure.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Looking at screenshots of Wolfenstein: The New Order, it’s easy to mistake it for a contemporary rehash of the 1980s corridor shooters that inspired its predecessors. The New Order, on the other hand, laid the foundation for a 21st-century Wolfenstein that plays true to its heritage while forging a new course for the franchise. It combines the fluid gunplay that id Software fans have come to expect with a sprinkling of RPG cliches (such as skill trees, branching narrative pathways, and side missions), and the whole package works incredibly well. The WWII alternate history tale effectively shifts between the ultra-violence and bombast for which id Software is known, while also tying into an emotional core with a wonderfully rendered cast of people. The current Wolfenstein games (created by MachineGames) are without a doubt among the greatest single-player first-person shooters available today, and The New Order is the ideal place to start.

Dishonored 2

Dishonored was a fantastic stealth title, and its sequel continues in its footsteps while also making significant advances ahead on its own. Dishonored 2 is a hidden treasure that has gone mostly unnoticed. It follows Corvo and Emily as they try to reclaim the kingdom following a coup. Gamers may choose to play as either Corvo or Emily, and each are granted distinct abilities, making Dishonored 2 extremely replayable. Furthermore, Dishonored 2 has one of the most original and fascinating levels in video game history, employing a time-travel feature in a way that both astounds and inspires.

Deep Rock Galactic

Battlefield: Hardline

There’s a slew of Battlefield goodies available on EA Play, and to be honest, if the series’ hallmark multiplayer lunacy is your thing, you’d be better off picking one of the more recent releases. Hardline, on the other hand, merits special notice for its reasonably inventive campaign.

Hardline’s bombastic police drama is a gem in the rough that is more than worth the price of admission in a genre where single-player games frequently play second fiddle to the multiplayer component.

Grounded

Obsidian Entertainment is returning with a fresh spin on the survival genre. Gamers take on the roles of children who have inexplicably shrunk to microscopic proportions in a weird Honey-I-Shrunk-the-Kids-like situation. These youngsters, now barely bigger than ants, must figure out what happened to them and face the perils of a typical backyard. Grounded is an absolute delight. Gathering grass blades to build a shelter, stones to craft hammers, and water drops to satisfy your thirst adds a new luster to an already overcrowded genre. The only thing to keep an eye out for? The spiders, that is. Common spiders are the principal opponents in Grounded, and a quick attack from one of them can be nearly heart-stopping for individuals who have arachnophobia.

Peggle

Make no mistake about it, Peggle is a simple puzzle game. Gamers must shoot a certain number of balls in order to clear a level of an array of pegs in the middle of the screen. It is the basic premise of the game. Its simplicity, though, is part of Peggle’s genius. Nothing beats aiming the cannon, shooting the ball, and then seeing it bounce from peg to peg. When new characters with distinct ball-shooting talents are unlocked, the game gains another degree of strategy. The basic notion of Peggle should not discourage anyone from playing it. Moreover, nothing surpasses the exhilaration of striking the final peg, when the television zooms in on the ball in slow motion and Beethoven’s Ode to Joy booms triumphantly.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Frostpunk

Frostpunk lives up to 11 bit’s current reputation for creating intellectual, yet heartbreaking thematic titles. Frostpunk, set in the late nineteenth century after a devastating volcanic winter, confronts players with managing a community of survivors as they try to survive the sub-zero conditions – and themselves. While the elements are cruel enough to fight with when employing limited resources and the exact application of heat sources, players will be faced with ethical quandaries that need one or more sacrifices. In many instances, implementing required regulations would disenfranchise, if not outright imperil, their population, jeopardizing your values and humanity as you fight to answer a single question: how far will you push the people under your care for the sake of seeing another frostbitten day?

Outer Worlds

Dead Space

Dead Space is the consequence of combining the calculated terror of Resident Evil 4 with a frigid and unfeeling sci-fi world. Gamers will accompany Isaac Clarke as he navigates the gloomy, steely corridors of the USG Ishimura, a massive planet-mining starship. Necromorphs, the reanimated corpses of the Ishimura’s crew, lurk around every corner, causing gruesome dread. Despite the fact that Dead Space was launched in 2008, it retains a persistent feeling of dread that surpasses the limits of most recent horror games. The mood will stay with you long after you’ve completed the game, and screams of “Make us whole” will haunt your worst dreams.

Minecraft

Is there a respectably succinct way to describe Minecraft? With 200 million sales since its humble beginnings in 2011, this unassuming small sandbox title pays rewards with the sheer depth and variety of material it’s capable of. Do you want to put your skills to the test against the weather and a slew of dangerous animals that emerge after dark? The place to be is in Survival Mode. Interested in truly making your own fun, or simply channeling your inner architectural genius without limits? The solution is to use Creative Mode. Of course, there’s also an overwhelming amount of community-generated stuff to discover. Minecraft is the most likely of all the enticing titles offered on Game Pass to never leave your hard disk.
