Cho Joo-bin – the head of “Nth chatroom”, was arrested in 2020.

The Seoul Police Department’s cyber security officials have apprehended a group of 5 suspects in connection with the “Nth chatroom”incident. Among the suspects are 2 students from SNU. It has been reported that these individuals used images and personal information gathered from female students’ social media accounts to produce deepfake pornography. The resulting footage was then distributed through the messaging app Telegram. The suspects’ illegal activities began in July of 2021 and continued until April of this year.

The suspect, Park, who is 40 years old and an alumni of SNU, has been in custody since April 11 for creating and distributing a total of 1,852 deepfake videos and images. His victims include 48 women, including minors, whom he knew during his time at SNU. It is reported that he spread around 100 videos in total.

Furthermore, the videos that were disseminated by Park were also assisted by Kang (31 years old), who was his accomplice. When the case was initially looked into, Kang was a law student at SNU, but has now graduated. Finally, Kang was apprehended on May 16.

According to reports, Kang filmed his classmates’ graduation photos and used them to create pornographic videos, which he then sent to Park. Upon receiving personal information and images from Kang, Park proceeded to share them in his sex chatroom and livestream.

Despite multiple victims reporting their cases to four different police departments after discovering they had become victims of sex chat rooms, all of these reports were rejected by the police who claimed to face “difficulties”in locating the two suspects.

The cyber security department launched an investigation into the case after receiving an order from the National Police Agency.

The information was sourced from both JoongAng Daily and Global Times.
