2000 Born Female Trainee Dies from Drug Overdose After Staying in Hotel with HYBE America COO

Late on the night of March 30th, 2022, 24-year-old Camilla Sterling, aspiring to be a singer, entered the elevator headed for VIP Room Ocean View 2805 at the exclusive Setai Hotel in Miami. Inside this luxurious room, she met David Bolno, a business associate of Scooter Braun, known for collaborating with artists like Post Malone and Drake. The cost for a VIP ocean-view room at this high-end hotel is approximately $1,890 per night (around 43.6 million VND). Bolno departed in a Cadillac Escalade around 4:30 AM, leaving Sterling behind.

By 8:30 AM the following day, when no one checked out of room 2805, hotel security knocked on the door. Upon entry, they discovered Camilla Sterling unconscious, curled in a fetal position in the bathtub. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial photos of the room revealed small plastic bags containing pink powder—suspected to be tusi, a mixture of MDMA (ecstasy) and ketamine—along with condom wrappers thrown in the trash.

The official cause of death was confirmed to be a drug overdose.

Initially, Miami police investigated Bolno as a potential suspect but soon cleared him, concluding he had fully cooperated and there were no further suspicions. Additionally, records indicated that Sterling ordered room service after Bolno’s departure.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Bolno stated, “She was there because I had a recording session the night before. She was my client and was trying to sign a record deal with me. Nothing else.” He chose not to provide any additional comments.

Nevertheless, Bolno’s relationship with Sterling appeared to be more intricate than his assertion conveys. According to text messages obtained by Business Insider, Bolno, a married man with two children, was covering the rent for Sterling’s $1.6 million (about 36 billion VND) apartment in Downtown Miami. Sterling reportedly referred to Bolno as her “boyfriend” to her real estate broker.

Friends have indicated that Sterling was involved with a significant figure in the music industry, but they only felt safe to provide this testimony anonymously due to fears of repercussions.

It’s evident that a power imbalance existed within Bolno and Sterling’s relationship. Sterling, being much younger, a person of color, and financially reliant on Bolno and his music industry connections, faced significant challenges. While Bolno’s support could have rapidly advanced Sterling’s career, since her tragic death, he has distanced himself from her and focused on enhancing his own reputation online. In stark contrast, most of Sterling’s legacy has been overshadowed, with only a few scandalous tabloid headlines remaining.

Currently, David Bolno serves as the COO of HYBE America, a position he has held since 2021.
