Making history on May 6, Stray Kids became the inaugural K-pop group to receive an invitation to the Met Gala.
The boy group, acting as representatives of Tommy Hilfiger, showcased custom ensembles from the brand. They even put on a display by removing a group jacket to reveal their true attire on the red carpet.
Despite its historic appearance, the 2024 Met Gala was tainted as fans caught reporters making offensive comments about Stray Kids. These comments included observations about the group’s supposed lack of emotion and comparisons to robots.
Furthermore, a video was also recorded showing reporters giving Stray Kids directions that perpetuate damaging stereotypes about K-pop groups, resulting in outrage among fans.
Therefore, supporters of Stray Kids have started referring to the journalists covering the 2024 Met Gala with terms such as “vile and repulsive”and “discriminatory”, due to their actions.
