In a recent press conference conducted prior to the 2024 Worlds Finals, Chris Greeley, Riot’s Global Head of Strategy, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “We are thrilled to announce that Canada will be hosting next year’s Mid-Season Invitational.”

This highly anticipated event marks a significant return of live League of Legends esports to Canada, which has not seen a major event since the LCS Spring Finals in 2017. Greeley emphasized the importance of engaging local fans, adding, “After a long hiatus from live League of Legends esports events in Canada, we couldn’t be more excited to bring international competition back to our North American fans.” The Mid-Season Invitational will feature ten qualified teams from five major regions, competing fiercely for the prestigious chance to make history and earn a spot at Worlds.

Introduction of the First Stand Tournament

In addition to the Mid-Season Invitational, Riot Games unveiled a new tournament called the First Stand, set to take place from March 10 to March 17, 2025. This unique event promises to redefine the competitive landscape with its innovative Fearless draft system.

Under the Fearless draft, teams can select each champion only once during their best-of-five match series. Once a champion is utilized, they cannot be reused in any remaining matches, adding an intriguing layer of strategy and intensity to the competitions.
