2025 Pokemon Go Lunar New Year Event: Schedule, Research Tasks, and Bonuses

As the year 2025 approaches, Pokémon Go is gearing up to celebrate the Lunar New Year with an exciting event packed full of opportunities for players to catch shiny Pokémon, engage in new Research Tasks, and experience various bonuses focused on luck.

While last year’s event introduced the charming Dragon/Normal type Drampa from Pokémon Moon, this year’s event promises a wealth of engaging content aimed at keeping players entertained through mid-January.

The Lunar New Year event will kick off on January 29 at 10:00 a.m. and continue until February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Mark your calendars!

Exclusive Bonuses

This year, the event shines a spotlight on luck with enticing bonuses, which include:

Enhanced odds of receiving Lucky Pokémon during trades.
Greater chances of forming Lucky Friends.

Wild Pokémon Encounters

Throughout the Lunar New Year event, players will encounter the following Pokémon more frequently in the wild:

Ekans*
Onyx*
Dreams*
Darumaka*
Dunsparce*
Gyarados*
Dratini*

*Note: Pokémon marked with an asterisk may be encountered in their shiny forms.

Egg Hatches

Players can look forward to hatching the following Pokémon from 2 km Eggs:

Makhita*
Nosepass*
Meditate*
Duskull*
Crust*

Additionally, there will be an enhanced chance to hatch a Shiny Nosepass!

Field and Timed Research Challenges

The Lunar New Year event will also host various Field Research challenges. Completing these challenges will reward players with additional Stardust and exclusive Pokémon encounters. Furthermore, event-themed Research will be available, allowing players to traverse routes and earn experience points, Stardust, and 10 Zygarde Cells.

Paid Timed Research

This year’s event features new paid research challenges set at a cost of $2.00 USD (or equivalent local currency). Players who purchase this content will gain access to:

Two Lucky Eggs
One Incubator
Encounters with Ekans and Nosepass
