What was the SPECIAL REQUEST that 2NE1 made to YG Entertainment? In an official statement, the label has confirmed THIS rumor!
After celebrating their 15th debut anniversary in May, it appears that 2NE1 has something in store for their dedicated fandom, BLACKJACKs, according to YG’s recent statement.
On June 25, it was first reported by K-media that after 8 years, the four members would be having an official meeting with YG’s executive producer Yang Hyun Suk.
Despite initial uncertainty, the label eventually confirmed that a meeting did indeed take place on June 27 at YG’s new building in Mapo-gu, Seoul. This announcement was made on June 28.
It was reported in May that CL met with Yang to celebrate their 15th debut anniversary. This is a noteworthy development as all four members were in attendance, making it more significant than their previous casual meetings.
YG officially declared:
“CEO Yang warmly welcomed each of the four members of 2NE1 one by one. We had very meaningful and deep conversations during the meeting that lasted about two hours.”
After YG’s confirmation, it is now known that 2NE1 is collaborating with the label on a new project. However, it has not been decided if this will be a comeback with an album release, a world tour, or other ventures.
“Considering that the members visited Producer Yang in person to celebrate their 15th debut anniversary, it is very likely that 2NE1 will proceed with a new project.
Since Producer Yang and 2NE1 members met for the first time in 8 years and had their first conversation, no specific plans have been made yet.
However, Producer Yang, who has a special affection for 2NE1, listened to the members’ requests and sympathized, so we hope to deliver good news to fans soon.”
In the interim, the focus remains on whether 2NE1 has reached a resolution with YG and if the upcoming project will be released under the same label.
On the contrary, 2NE1 was the pioneer K-pop girl group formed by YG Entertainment in 2009. Soon after their debut, the group’s popularity skyrocketed due to their multiple chart-topping hits such as “Fire,””I Don’t Care,”and “I AM THE BEST.”
During the second-generation era, they solidified their position as the “Queens of K-pop”through their consistently impressive performances and exceptional live skills.
Sadly, following Minzy’s departure from the group, the team eventually broke up in 2016 with their last single “Goodbye,”as each member also left YG Entertainment one by one.
Despite not having released any music since then, the group was finally able to reunite and perform together at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2022, after a 7-year hiatus. The surprise appearance was met with excitement from fans and marked their first performance as a whole group in years.
