3 Idols at National Assembly: Will NewJeans Hanni Address Workplace Bullying Issues?

Numerous K-pop idols have participated in discussions at the National Assembly regarding the K-pop industry. Recently, the spotlight is on NewJeans’ Hanni, who may address issues related to workplace bullying and speak out against HYBE.

On September 30th, the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee invited NewJeans’ Hanni in anticipation of the state audit scheduled for October 25th, to discuss the pressing topic of workplace bullying and harassment.

The committee convened a plenary session that day and approved 35 witnesses and references in advance of the state audit.

Should Hanni attend, it is likely she will be questioned about the mistreatment she experienced from a HYBE staff member, which she disclosed during a live broadcast last month.

The anticipation surrounding her attendance is significant, as it could mean opposing her parent company HYBE and her label, ADOR. Should she choose not to attend, she will be required to submit a written explanation with a valid reason.

Not complying could lead to penalties including fines or imprisonment.

Before Hanni, three other idols were also called by the National Assembly, including former Teen Top member CAP (Bang Minsoo), former Brave Girls member Noh Hyeran (Jainros), and ex-Bob Girls member Heo Yu Jeong.
