Sentencing Hearing for Defamation Case Involving Kim Mo

Prosecution Seeks Prison Term

In response to the charges, Kim asserted, “I was merely expressing my personal preferences.” Moreover, she cited mental health issues that allegedly impair her ability to communicate effectively, appealing to the court for leniency in the final ruling.

The initial trial’s verdict is set to be announced on December 3, 2023. This case highlights the ongoing issue of online harassment faced by public figures, particularly in the entertainment industry.
IU’s Stance Against Online Harassment
IU has firmly committed to combating malicious online behavior directed at her. Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, provided an update on November 11, detailing their efforts in addressing cyberbullying over the past year.

According to the agency, more than 180 individuals have been implicated in legal actions since 2023, with ongoing lawsuits still in progress. The agency’s report indicated that several cases had resulted in penalties: there were six instances that led to monetary fines, three cases of deferred prosecution upon completing educational conditions, and one with conditions involving probation services.
Ongoing Investigations and Future Actions
EDAM Entertainment disclosed that they have gathered personal information about some offenders, including those engaging in illegal activities through overseas servers. Alarmingly, some of these individuals are purportedly former classmates of IU. Despite active investigations, harassment has continued, prompting the agency to intensify their legal measures. They also called upon international cooperation to track down those utilizing overseas IP addresses for malicious comments. The agency reinforced their commitment to pursuing justice without offering any settlements or leniency.
