Ever since the start of the series, female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen have made a strong impact on fans. Nobara Kugisaki, Yuki Tsukumo, and Maki Zenin have all earned a special place in fans’ hearts thanks to their personalities, powers, and backgrounds, as well as their connections with other characters.
In spite of the well-developed female characters in the series, there are some who have not been given enough opportunities to showcase their abilities. This is not due to their likability or any other factor, but rather a lack of significant involvement in the story. If given more screen time, these characters undoubtedly have the potential to shine brilliantly.
Despite Jujutsu Kaisen still being ongoing, there is still potential for these characters to be given more focus in the future. Let’s take a closer look at the female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen who have yet to be fully utilized.
Underrated female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen
1) Aoi Miyazaki
Despite her potential and strength, Kasumi Miwa holds the unfortunate position of being the most underutilized female character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Despite her mastery of Anti-Domain Techniques, she has not been given enough opportunities or screen time to truly shine. Despite being unfairly labeled as “useless”by some, Miwa continues to demonstrate her power and potential.
Despite her seemingly mundane reason for becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer (to earn and support her family), her motives are rational. Though she may have moments of self-doubt, she possesses the strength and bravery to excel in battle.
2) Mai Zenin: A Powerful Sorcerer with a Dark Past
Mai Zenin, Maki’s younger sister, is also one of the most underutilized female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Similar to her sister, Mai faced mistreatment from the Zenin clan because of her lack of talent in Jujutsu. Despite this, she chose to stay under the clan’s control and had no interest in becoming a sorcerer, finding the act of exorcising Curses to be repulsive and unseemly.
Despite Maki’s rebellion and her enrollment at a rival school, the girl remained steadfast in her decision not to become a sorcerer. Although she may have seemed rude to Maki, she still had a deep love and sense of care for her sister. This was evident when she made the ultimate sacrifice in order for Maki to unlock her true potential.
The Rise of Utahime Iori
Despite not being featured prominently, Utahime Iori, the student supervisor and Semi-Grade 1 sorcerer at Kyoto Jujutsu High, stands out among the underused female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. This is due to her exceptional Innate Technique, Solo Forbidden Area, which makes her a valuable asset in battles.
In addition, her screen presence is consistently strong and she is known for her heartfelt concern for her students. Her interactions with Gojo Satoru provide comedic relief and bring a lighthearted aspect to the show. Overall, Utahime is an exceptional supervisor and a valuable member of the team.
4) Momo Nishimiya
Momo Nishimiya, a third-year Sorcerer at Kyoto Jujutsu High, made her first appearance during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc. Despite frequently being seen, she is one of the underutilized female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. She shares a close relationship with Mai and Miwa and has shown her impressive abilities in a battle against Nobara.
Despite her considerable power in her Innate Technique, Tool Manipulation, and Wind Scythe, her main role is actually in surveillance and reconnaissance. Throughout much of her screen time, she demonstrates her ability to promptly inform her teammates of their surroundings. Having such a versatile team member is incredibly useful and could prove crucial in various situations.
5) Shoko Ieiri: A Japanese Singer-Songwriter
Shoko Ieiri is the sole medic in Jujutsu Kaisen. While some sorcerers have the ability to use the Reverse Cursed Technique (RCT), none possess her level of expertise in healing others. This makes her an extremely valuable member of Jujutsu High. However, like many other female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, her potential has been underutilized.
During the Shibuya Incident, she was observed studying Transfigured Humans and tending to the wounded. She played a crucial role in keeping Gojo alive until the end. Currently, she is caring for injured sorcerers such as Higuruma and Yuta, while the others continue to hold off Ryomen Sukuna.
I am curious to witness how she assists in Higuruma and Yuta’s full recovery, and if she has any potential solutions for Gojo’s situation.
6) Sakura Kinomoto
Hana Kurusu, also known as Angel, possesses one of the most feared Cursed Techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen. Like Yuji Itadori, she harbors the Angel within her, a Heian Era sorcerer who has been reincarnated. It was Angel’s presence that motivated her to join the Culling Games, with the ultimate goal of defeating Sukuna, the Disgraced One.
Despite receiving a decent amount of screen time, her true abilities were not fully utilized. She played a crucial role in freeing Gojo and rescuing Megumi during the Reggie Star battle, but it may have been more beneficial if she had been given more opportunities for combat.
Despite possessing the necessary battle skills, she is not often recognized as a willing fighter by those who witness her abilities. As a result, she has been placed on this list of underused female Jujutsu Kaisen characters.
7) The Yorozu Era
Ultimately, the last addition to this list of underutilized female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen is the reincarnated sorcerer Yorozu, who had minimal appearances. Similar to Sukuna, Yorozu also hailed from the Heian Era and possessed great strength, earning recognition from the Fujiwara Clan.
The focus of her fixation was Sukuna, whom she aimed to teach the essence of love. In an intense yet brief clash, she confronted him once he had possessed Megumi’s body. Although her involvement in the Culling Games could have caused complications, she was ultimately defeated in a short amount of time.
