1) Sin of Wrath – Tomura Shigaraki
Starting off this list is Tomura Shigaraki, one of the main antagonists in My Hero Academia. He exemplifies wrath, which is a powerful and furious emotion that drives someone to seek revenge or cause destruction. Shigaraki embodies this definition perfectly.
Despite enduring abuse from his father and feeling isolated as a child, Tenko Shimura ultimately transformed into Tomura Shigaraki, a severely twisted and malevolent individual who stood in stark contrast to the heroic Izuku Midoriya. His circumstances only became more dire when he fell under the influence of All For One, who manipulated him completely.
As a result, he became consumed with rage and hatred, spiraling further into a dark hole that seemed impossible to climb out of. Despite eventually overcoming his hatred, Midoriya remained the leader of the League of Villains.
2) The Sin of Envy in the Endeavor
Enji Todoroki, also known as Endeavor, from My Hero Academia serves as a perfect illustration of the Sin of Envy. Envy is characterized by an unquenchable longing, causing one to become bitter and resentful towards the qualities of others. This is precisely how the Flame Hero began his journey.
Despite his desire to surpass All Might and claim the No. 2 Hero spot, Endeavor was forced to accept his role while All Might remained strong. However, he soon realized that he could not surpass his rival and made a series of choices that had disastrous consequences. In his quest to have a child who could surpass All Might, he married Rei solely for her Ice Quirk, hoping that their offspring would inherit the powers of both parents.
Despite his best efforts, Endeavor’s initial attempts were not successful, which only added to his frustration. As a result, he turned to mistreating his wife and family, ultimately resulting in the birth of the Villain Dabi and the downfall of his family.
Sin of Greed – All For One
All For One (AFO), the main antagonist in My Hero Academia, embodies the Sin of Greed perfectly. Greed is the insatiable craving to possess or attain more than what is necessary. Once the most formidable villain in Japan, AFO’s primary objective was to obtain the One For All (OFA) Quirk, which was originally wielded by his younger brother.
Despite his initial failure, he took on the role of mentor to Shigaraki and molded him into his successor. This was all part of his grand scheme to conquer the world, as he saw the boy as the perfect vessel for his power. However, his insatiable thirst for conquest and cruel nature drove him to commit heinous acts, solidifying his reputation as one of animanga’s most despicable villains.
Sloth as a Sin – Shota Aizawa
Shota Aizawa, also known as Eraser Head, is the perfect representation of Sloth – the lack of desire to put effort into tasks. As the homeroom teacher of Class 1-A in My Hero Academia, Aizawa embodies this sin with his reserved demeanor and high expectations for his students. He is a stern and logical individual, driven by his belief in his students’ potential.
Nevertheless, he has no interest in upholding a polished image or censoring his thoughts and beliefs for others. This may give the impression that he is detached, indifferent, easily irritated, and uninterested in expending much effort in most circumstances.
Instead, his preferred activity was taking naps in his sleeping bag. To put it plainly, he lacked interest in many things.
Sinful Desires – Minoru Mineta
The Sin of Lust can be defined as an unrestrained or improper longing for excessive pleasure. When thinking about this sin in relation to My Hero Academia, Minoru Mineta immediately comes to mind. As a member of Class 1-A, Mineta may appear shy, but his infamous perversion is well-known. His thoughts often stray to lecherous desires, even in unrelated circumstances.
Despite Minoru’s sharp eye for peeping at girls, this tendency often leads to painful consequences. His fascination with women is one of the key motivators for his desire to become a Pro Hero, along with his overall popularity. He openly embraces these traits, displaying a sense of pride in them.
6) Sin of Gluttony – Fatgum
Although not a direct depiction of the Sin of Gluttony, Taishiro Toyomitsu, also known as BMI Hero: Fat Gum, embodies its essence. Gluttony is defined as excessive indulgence and consumption of food or drink, which is exactly what Fat Gum’s Quirk requires him to do in order to maintain his Fat State. This makes him a formidable defensive force, akin to a tank.
His unique ability allows him to effortlessly adhere anything to his obese body upon contact, causing it to sink into his layers of fat. Additionally, his fat reserves can also store kinetic energy which he can use for offensive purposes. However, using this energy weakens his defense, so he must constantly eat and replenish his calories to maintain this state until it is needed.
7) Yuga Aoyama and the Sin of Pride
Ultimately, to wrap up this list, Yuga Aoyama from My Hero Academia serves as a prime example of the Sin of Pride. This trait, often seen as the most destructive of the Seven Deadly Sins, entails an excessive sense of satisfaction and superiority over one’s own being or possessions.
At first, he appears to be conceited and arrogant, seeing himself as above his classmates, particularly when it comes to his Quirk. He displays flashy behaviors, enjoys striking poses, and craves attention. He always maintains a proud smile, even ending his sentences with a star to add a touch of sophistication. This is further enhanced by his use of French words, a nod to his French ancestry.
