Starbucks Unveils New Japanese Coffee Mugs that Enhance Your Brew Experience

Starbucks Japan has recently collaborated with six of the nation’s oldest kilns to create an innovative coffee mug designed to enhance your coffee experience like never before.

Unlike its American counterpart, Starbucks Japan is dedicated to producing locally crafted goods that celebrate the artistry of local potters. In 2015, they launched a line known as ‘Jimoto Made,’ which translates to ‘Locally Made.’

This initiative has proven very successful and continues to evolve nearly a decade after its inception. The latest addition to this collection is arguably one of the most fascinating products yet.

The new Bizen ware mug introduced by the retailer has a rich history deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Bizen pottery is an ancient form of Japanese ceramica that dates back almost 2,000 years, produced in one of Japan’s oldest kilns.

Bizen pottery is highly regarded due to the meticulous process involved in crafting each piece.

“The firing process is so prolonged and labor-intensive that most kilns only fire once or twice a year. During this unique phase, artisans carefully position the cups, plates, and vases within the kiln without moving them for several hours, hoping to achieve optimal results.

Each piece of Bizen pottery is entirely one-of-a-kind

“The final appearance of every piece cannot be completely anticipated, making each cup or dish distinct and exclusive.”

But how does this specific piece enhance the taste of your Starbucks brew? The secret lies in its construction. Bizen ware features tiny pores in the surface of the material that improve the cup’s breathability. This characteristic allows the coffee to develop a smoother flavor profile, effectively reducing bitterness and resulting in a more balanced taste.

If you’re eager to own one of these new Bizen Starbucks mugs, you’ll need to travel to Japan as they will not be available for online purchase. Several retailers in Okayama Prefecture currently offer the mugs, available for a limited time while supplies last.

These mugs come with a premium price of 7,200 yen, roughly equivalent to $51.41, reflecting the intricate craftsmanship and high-quality materials used in their production.

Additionally, this isn’t the only unique drinkware concept Starbucks has introduced in September. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Starbucks Japan’s online store, a new tumbler has been revealed that allows for extensive customization with hundreds of design options.
