The beloved crime drama of the 2000s is making a comeback, and there are potential major alterations in store for its film adaptation. While fans of 24 are thrilled, they have also noticed a clever play on words.
Some of our most beloved recent films and television series have been adapted from popular works from the past, and the crime drama 24, starring Kiefer Sutherland, is now among them.
According to Deadline, the show is currently being developed into a film by 20th Century and Imagine Entertainment. No further information is available at this time.
This could suggest that fans may not have the chance to see Sutherland reprise his iconic role as Jack Bauer again, but for many, the obvious joke has already been overlooked.
“According to one fan’s post on X/Twitter, A24 should be the one to handle a potential ’24’ movie. Another fan agreed, stating “That’s what I thought!”on their post on X/Twitter.
A third person chimed in, “That would be fantastic,”with another person adding, “And it would also be grammatically correct.”
A24 has gained a reputation for producing action movies this year, highlighted by the success of their dystopian political film Civil War, which has been hailed as one of the top movies of 2024. Additionally, the company has several crime-related films in development, such as The Front Room by the Eggers Brothers.
Despite the possibility that A24 and 24 may not have much in common besides their names, fans’ views on the film are predictably split.
“One Twitter user responded, stating, “If Kiefer Sutherland isn’t playing Jack Bauer, there’s no point.”Another user agreed, bringing up the previous failed spinoff attempt without Jack.”
In an ideal scenario, it would be a brand new series consisting of 8-10 episodes, culminating in a two-hour movie that serves as the final episode.
One viewer shared on Twitter, “I’ve been a fan of 24 since the beginning and watched every season with Jack Bauer, but this latest installment feels like they’re trying to capitalize on a dead franchise.”
It is uncertain whether Sutherland will be involved, however he does have innovative ideas for the future of 24.
“I also believe it is an excellent concept to capture a 24-hour period in someone’s desperate life – whether it be a fireman or any other circumstance,”he stated in an interview with EW in 2023. “I am surprised that no one has thought of utilizing it in that way.”
Whether it involves me or not, I am amazed by the ingenuity and complexity of real-time activities. I find it surprising that this technology has not been utilized in other ways or expanded into larger applications.
