The Shattered Space expansion is a premium DLC for Starfield, meaning players need to purchase it to gain access. There are three methods to acquire the Shattered Space add-on:

  • Buy the expansion individually for $29.99.
  • Purchase the Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade for $34.99.
  • If you have the Starfield Premium Edition, you already have it included.

The Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade includes the Shattered Space expansion, along with 1,000 Creation Credits, a gear skin pack, a digital artbook, and the original soundtrack. This option is aimed at Standard Edition or Xbox Game Pass players, but you can save $5 by opting for just the expansion.

Players will gain access to the Shattered Space expansion after successfully completing One Small Step, the initial mission of the game. Bethesda recommends players be around level 35 before embarking on the new expansion.

Following this, players will receive a distress call while grav-jumping for the first time after finishing One Small Step. Note that this call won’t activate if you are currently involved in another mission or encounter.

This call directs players to a vast star station known as The Oracle. By following the indicated path, players will be led into the Shattered Space expansion. They can return to the base game at any point during the new mission.

The add-on is set on the planet Va’ruun’kai, located within the Kavnyk star system. Players will land in the capital city, Darza, to investigate the situation regarding the House Va’ruun government.
