A Couple of Cuckoos Season 2 Confirms 2025 Release Window in New PV

On Friday, July 26, 2024, Kadokawa made an official announcement for season 2 of A Couple of Cuckoos and confirmed that it will be released in 2025. The announcement was accompanied by a promotional video for the anime, which primarily focused on the news and did not include any footage from the upcoming season.

Along with the promotional video, the announcement of A Couple of Cuckoos season 2 also included a key visual and celebratory illustration. The artwork, created by Miki Yoshikawa, the original manga’s creator and author, features the anime’s main characters.

A Couple of Cuckoos Season 2 Confirmed for Production and 2025 Release Window

The promotional video for A Couple of Cuckoos season 2, which runs for approximately 40 seconds, mainly consists of manga panels taken from Yoshikawa’s original source material. These panels appear to be from scenes that will be featured in the upcoming season, as the characters shown in the panels briefly appear on screen before the official confirmation of season 2’s production.

The still used for the key visual is taken from the trailer and captures a brief glimpse of the characters before the official announcement of season 2. A celebratory illustration showcases three of these characters, including protagonist Nagi Umino, who holds up a sign with Japanese lettering.

The initial season debuted in April 2022 and spanned over two cours, with Crunchyroll streaming the anime globally on a weekly basis while also creating an English dub. Hiroaki Akagi served as the chief director, with Yoshiyuki Shirahata directing the series at Shinei Animation and Synergy SP. Yasuhiro Nakanishi was in charge of the series scripts, and Aya Takano was responsible for designing the characters.

As stated previously, the second season of A Couple of Cuckoos will continue the story from the original manga series by Yoshikawa. The manga was first published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in January 2020 and is currently ongoing, with regular serialization in the magazine. As of the time of writing, there are 23 volumes of the manga, with 18 of them available in English.

The English version of the manga is published by Kodansha USA Publishing, who describes the romantic comedy series as:

“16-year-old super-studier Nagi Umino, second-year student at the Megurogawa Academy high school, was switched at birth. On his way to a dinner to meet his birth parents, he accidentally meets the brash, outspoken, Erika Amano, who is determined to make Nagi her fake boyfriend as she never wants to actually marry. But once Nagi makes it to dinner, he finds his parents have decided to resolve the hospital switch by conveniently having him marry the daughter his birth parents raised…who turns out to be none other than Erika herself!”
