A Guide to Acquiring Primal Energy in Pokémon Go

Primal Energy in Pokemon Go is a vital resource that enables trainers to unlock the full potential of Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. Here’s a guide on how to acquire more Primal Energy.

With the return of Groudon in Pokemon Go Raids in September 2024, many trainers are excited to catch Primal Groudon, a powerful creature that originally debuted in Pokemon Omega Ruby.

Introduced in the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, Primal Reversion is a unique transformation available only to two Pokemon: Groudon and Kyogre. This transformation is said to revert the Pokemon to its original, ancient might, akin to Mega Evolution.

If you’ve successfully caught either Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, or both, read on to find out how to gather more Primal Energy to harness their incredible abilities.

There are three methods to obtain additional Primal Energy in Pokemon Go:

  • Defeat Primal Groudon or Primal Kyogre in raids
  • Complete designated research tasks
  • Walk with Groudon or Primal Kyogre as your Buddy

Keep in mind that, similar to Mega Energy for Mega Evolution, Primal Energy is specific to each species, meaning you cannot use Kyogre’s Primal Energy on Groudon and vice versa.

Defeating Primal Pokemon is the most direct way to amass more Primal Energy, yielding 80-100 Primal Energy per successful raid. However, these Raids can be challenging, and their availability is tied to Pokemon Go’s event schedule.

The only consistently reliable method to earn Primal Energy in Pokemon Go is to have Groudon or Kyogre undergo Primal Reversion at least once, then walk with them as your Buddy. This will require some effort, as you will earn 100 Primal Energy for every 20km walked.

While this approach may involve a grind, it stands as the sole method to collect additional Primal Energy irrespective of the current events in Pokemon Go.
