A Helldivers 2 player spots a clue that suggests the arrival of the Illuminists

While Helldivers 2 only includes two enemy factions, an eagle-eyed player recently found an easter egg hinting at the arrival of a third faction.

The newly released sequel to Helldivers pits players against two different factions, each with over half a dozen enemy types.

Insectoid creatures make up the Terminides faction. Opposite, the Automatons faction includes several types of robots.

But will developer Arrowhead introduce a third warring group into the galactic fight? An easter egg has led some players to think that such an addition is not impossible

Hint in Helldivers 2 suggests new enemy faction

On Reddit, player u/xHAcoreRDx recently posted a screenshot of an in-universe newscast. On the scrolling banner, the main text refers to the Helldivers’ attack on the Automatons. In the live information banner at the bottom of the broadcast, the player found a cut sentence saying: “Rumors of Illuminist sightings were started by dissids…”

The Redditor who shared the image drew attention to the fact that the Illuminists are finally being mentioned in Helldivers 2. Naturally, the hope is that the army in question will eventually surface in this new installment via updates post-launch.

It should be noted that the mention of the Illuminists so far only comes from an easter egg. At the time of writing, Arrowhead has yet to confirm a third faction for Helldivers 2.

However, fans wouldn’t be wrong to hope. Indeed, the original Helldivers launched with the Terminides and Automatons as the main factions. The Illuminists were added much later.

Hailing from an incredibly sophisticated civilization, the Illuminists are a race of haughty aliens somewhat similar to the Kaminoans in Star Wars.

These robed creatures produce weapons of mass destruction that pose a great threat to Super Earth. So that means they would fit perfectly into Helldivers 2’s pretense of fighting for democracy.
