According to the light novel, the Donghua depicts the story of Reiko, a girl who sacrifices herself to a 5000-year-old dragon in order to secure protection for her village from the Demon King.

Despite its appearance as a fire-breathing creature, the dragon is actually a gentle, plant-eating being. Alongside Reiko, they set out on a quest to defeat the Demon King.
