A Pokémon Go player regrets placing his Gardevoir in a Gym

A Pokémon Go player has shared his sadness over losing a Pokémon at a Gym after it hasn’t returned from its mission in over 200 days.

In the main Pokémon games, players must conquer Gyms by bringing their best Pokémon to face the Champion. In Pokémon Go, you must also defend a Gym on behalf of your chosen team.

Once a Gym has been claimed, you can send a Pokémon to defend it, giving other teams the chance to claim it. Protecting a Gym is valuable to most players because you can earn PokéCoins by doing so, which is Pokémon Go’s premium currency that usually costs real money.

The disadvantage of defending a Pokémon Gym is that you lose access to the Pokémon while it is away. This means that you cannot use it for battles against other players or Raids against powerful Legendary Pokémon.

A Pokémon has not returned from a Gym for over 200 days

A user on the Pokémon Go Reddit shared a screenshot of the Gardevoir they sent to defend a Gym. This intrepid Gardevoir is doing an incredible job, having held his position for over 200 days, preventing him from returning to his owner.

“This is honestly one of the lamest things in Pokémon Go. You should be able to recall a Pokémon after a week or a while,”one user wrote, while another said, “Poor thing comes back after a year with only 50 pieces to show for it.»

A user had a suggestion for long stays in the Arena. “I would like to see some sort of mechanism put in place to prevent accidental dropping of Pokémon in Gyms. Perhaps a maximum limit that your mon can be in an arena (10 days for example) before it is automatically kicked out.»

“Maybe an option to recall your Pokémon after a certain time.”Maybe even the same mechanic, but you earn coins for each day your mon is in an arena after the first day (5 coins per day for example).»

The reason for most long stays in Pokémon Gyms is location. People who protect Arenas in busy cities will face many challengers, while those who claim Arenas in isolated locations won’t have as much competition, so a strong defender can keep competitors at bay for indefinite periods of time.

The fact that there is a PokéCoin limit on Gym stays is a huge waste, as it would incentivize players to fight for Gyms longer. As it stands, this Gardevoir will only yield as many coins as a Keunotor that protects an Arena for a fraction of the time.
