A surprise patch for Modern Warfare 3 recently brought a significant buff to an unpopular machine gun, even to the point of becoming one of the best weapons in the game.
As players continued to enjoy Season 2 of Modern Warfare 3, they were recently pleasantly surprised to discover a new update that brought various weapon balance changes.
Notable improvements have been made to several weapons such as the Striker 9, the Longbow and the WSP Stinger.
However, one weapon has received particular attention, it is the TAQ Evolvere which could well establish itself in the meta.
The TAQ Evolvere is a particularly effective long-range machine gun.
A surprise buff makes the TAQ Evolvere overpowered
The February 13 patch saw the TAQ Evolvere receive a massive rework that fundamentally changed the way the previously neglected machine gun works.
Its default ammo and 556 band magazines have been overhauled, the former affecting Warzone and the latter giving the machine gun a place in the multiplayer meta.
The changes to band 556 are as follows:
- Increased movement speed advantage by 16%.
- Added a 40% scattershot reduction benefit.
- Increased aim time advantage by 15%.
- Increased movement speed advantage when aiming by 17%.
- Added a rate of fire advantage to 857 shots per minute.
- Decreased maximum damage from 34 to 30 (-12%).
- Decreased average damage from 30 to 24 (-20%).
- Increased head, neck, and upper torso damage multipliers from x1.1 to x1.2 (+9%).
After this rework, equipping the 556 Band transforms the TAQ Evolvere into a highly mobile machine gun with rapid, devastating fire at close to medium range. In fact, it has a TTK of only 210ms at its maximum damage range, which is the fastest of any automatic weapon in MW3.
This improvement has not gone unnoticed by players since this weapon is currently the third most used weapon in MW3 with a usage rate of 9.52% according to WZRanked.
