A return to Johto for the Pokémon franchise in 2024?

YouTube’s announcement of a Pokémon Presents for Pokémon Day 2024 has led fans to expect news regarding Gold and Silver – but is it just a misunderstanding?

Pokémon Day takes place on February 27, and as in recent years, the celebration will include a Pokémon Presents.

This presentation is especially exciting for fans, as we don’t know what’s in store for the Pokémon franchise after the Scarlet and Purple expansion releases in late 2023.

Now, fans have noticed that under the short YouTube video announcing Pokémon Presents, Pokémon Gold and Silver are listed under “Games.”This has fueled speculation that something Johto-related could be announced – but should you temper your expectations?

Is the Gold & Silver clue in Pokémon Presents a leak or a misunderstanding?

Although Pokémon Gold and Silver are included on the YouTube page, there is no indication that they will be included in an announcement during Pokémon Presents.

Previous Pokémon Presents have also featured Gold and Silver under “Games”before the actual presentation, as seen in this tweet from last year.

Note that this was posted just before the August 2023 Pokémon Presents, which revealed the release date of Scarlet & Purple DLC, the arrival of Paldea starters in Pokémon Go, the Winds of Paldea miniseries and more again – but nothing on Gold and Silver.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be anything Johto-related revealed during Pokémon Day. Fans have long speculated that a Let’s Go! or Legends: Arceus could be in development.

Additionally, Pokémon fans have long hoped that the classic games would be available on Nintendo Switch Online since the service began adding Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles.

If any of these projects are in the works, a Pokémon Presents would definitely be the right place for the announcement.

However, the fact that Gold and Silver are mentioned on the YouTube page should not be taken as confirmation that a remake, reimagining, or port of Johto is on the way – so temper your expectations ahead of Pokémon Day 2024.
