1. Defeating the Stone Monkey in Black Myth: Wukong
To successfully defeat Stone Monkey in Black Myth: Wukong, one must possess patience and the necessary skills. This challenging final boss fight is divided into four parts, requiring a calm and focused demeanor.
Utilize your understanding of the boss’s attack patterns and vulnerabilities to execute accurate strikes. Exhaust all options and utilize every ability, skill, relic, transformation, and equipment at your disposal in this battle.
Below is a brief overview of the boss’s attacks in all four phases, along with some helpful combat tips to make defeating the boss a smoother experience.
Preparing For The Battle
The boss fight takes place at the Heart of Birthstone, where Stone Monkey is found meditating on the expansive shore of an ocean. To begin the battle, you must find and interact with the Birthstone, which will transport you to a mystical realm.
Following this interaction, there is a lengthy cutscene that leads directly into the boss fight. Therefore, it is essential to prepare beforehand for any necessary preparations should be completed prior to this point.
- Prepare yourself for the ultimate showdown by selecting a formidable weapon paired with sturdy armor, such as the Golden Suozi Armor and Lotus Silk Clothtreaders. Enhance your abilities with a potent spirit transformation like the Wandering Wight.
- Enhance your skills by equipping unique and powerful items such as the White Seashell Waist Chain, which boosts your attacks, and Maitreya’s Orb, which allows you to evade deadly strikes by landing a sufficient number of hits on your opponent.
- Make sure to utilize your most effective health-restoring gourd, relics, abilities, and spells. Some highly recommended options include Immobilize, Cloud Step, A Pluck of Many, Fuming Ears, and more.
2. Stone Monkey – Phase 1
The battle begins with the stone monkey launching into the air and forcefully bringing down his fists, so stay alert and ready to avoid his attacks. As he is unarmed in this state, he will use his arms, fists, and feet to strike at you.
- Avoid his grab attacks if possible (if you want to keep your bones intact), as he will hulk-smash you around like his personal plaything (and trust me, it looks very brutal).
- Watch for orange-glowing arms, signaling a shockwave-inducing leap attack – create distance to avoid the AoE. Seize brief windows after his attacks to strike back.
- Be careful when he turns to stone and then reappears; continue running to avoid his subsequent stomp attack.
- Utilize the Immobilize spell to inflict substantial damage during his vulnerable periods.
Stone Monkey – Phase 2
After the initial health bar is drained, the Stone Monkey transforms into a dual-wielding enemy, wielding both fire and ice. He will start off by unleashing fire shockwaves, which can be evaded by dodging at the appropriate moment. Expect to dodge multiple attacks in this stage.
- He continues to use his previous attacks, but now with additional elemental damage. Be cautious of his icy fist slams and make sure to dodge away. Take advantage of his combos finishing to counterattack.
- As he unleashes a deafening roar, the creature unleashes a powerful shockwave that turns him to stone. However, he quickly reappears in the same spot as the shockwave rebounds. Be swift and dodge to avoid being struck.
- When your health is reduced by half, a clone will materialize. Defeat the clone and get ready for more powerful fire and ice combinations.
- It is important to prioritize dodging deadly attacks and utilizing transformations and skills when necessary. Success in landing hits and achieving victory relies on having patience and timing.
4. The Great Sage’s Broken Shell – Phase 1
Despite the ongoing battle, the Stone Monkey has finally transformed into his true form as the Great Sage’s Broken Shell, resembling our protagonist Wukong with his armor and weapon, but possessing even greater strength and size.
- The boss immediately begins the battle by throwing his staff like a boomerang. When the cutscene ends, roll back to avoid getting hit by the attack.
- Like Wukong, his moveset echoes with ferocity and fluidity, but with intensified strength. He incorporates powerful staff slams and swift pole-vaulting strikes. Take advantage of short openings to counterattack after his aggressive assaults.
- Be cautious of the ring of fire he creates around himself – instead of falling into a potential trap, wait for him to leave the circle and then strike.
5. The Great Sage’s Broken Shell – Phase 2
After an exciting cutscene, the last stage commences, distinguished by the boss’s radiant golden eyes.
- As his assaults become more fierce, he incorporates multiple combinations with heightened ferocity. Utilize all of your skills, transformations, and abilities, while also maintaining a balance between attacking and defending. Take advantage of recovery periods by dodging and then retaliating.
- Be cautious of his aerial attack, where he will swoop in on a cloud, lift you into the air, and forcefully slam you down with his staff – avoid or escape to prevent the animation from happening.
- With only half health remaining, it is crucial to closely monitor your vitality as he unleashes an unavoidable combo.
- One of his tactics involves converting his staff into a lengthy pole, from which he hurls numerous miniature glowing staffs at the player. Skillfully evade each one and be prepared to dodge once more when he crashes down.
- As soon as he positions the staff behind him and it starts emitting a red glow, prepare to evade his devastating beam attack. Channel all of your patience, strength, timing, and expertise to deplete his health and emerge victorious in the final battle against him.
After a long and arduous challenge, the boss has been successfully defeated. As the final cutscene plays, the curtain falls on an epic adventure, bringing an end to this incredible journey and the game itself.
