The Seoul Yongsan Police Station received a complaint against actor Yoo Ah-in on July 26th, as reported by the police. The actor has been booked on charges of same-sex sexual assault, which falls under the category of quasi-rape according to current laws.
The police have stated that they have not yet reached out to the accused (Yoo Ah-in) but they intend to summon him for questioning in the near future.
On July 14th, a 30-year-old individual, referred to as A, alleged that they were sexually assaulted by Yoo Ah-in while sleeping at an officetel in Yongsan, Seoul. The officetel was not the residence of either Yoo Ah-in or A, and there were other men present at the time of the incident.
The police are also exploring the potential that Yoo Ah-in, who is currently facing charges for drug use, may have carried out the offense while under the influence of drugs.
The police conducted an investigation on the previous day and A tested negative in the rapid drug test, indicating that they were not the accuser.
Yoo Ah-in faced legal proceedings from September 2020 to March 2022 for allegedly administering propofol 181 times while claiming it was for anesthesia for cosmetic procedures at hospitals in Seoul. Furthermore, between May 2021 and August 2022, the actor obtained 1100 sleeping pills on 44 occasions using someone else’s name. In January of the previous year, he was also involved in marijuana use in the US with four others, including Choi, and encouraged others to do the same.
Despite admitting to smoking marijuana and taking propofol during the trials, Yoo Ah-in denied any involvement in instructing drug use, destroying evidence, aiding and abetting violations of the Narcotics Control Act, and attempting to flee abroad.
During the most recent trial on July 24th, requested by the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 25, the prosecution demanded a four-year prison sentence for Yoo Ah-in. The first hearing for Yoo Ah-in is set for September 3rd at 2 p.m.
