Activision has made significant strides in enhancing the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, addressing the increasingly serious concerns regarding cheating in its games.
On November 22, the company publicly acknowledged that the Ranked Play mode in Black Ops 6 was being plagued by cheating. Following its introduction in Season 1 Reloaded, players reported a surge in cheaters infiltrating high-rank lobbies, posting alarming clips on social media that showcased the prevalent issue.
The frustration amongst players, including prominent content creators and professional Call of Duty League competitors, reached a peak as they vocally criticized the state of the game on various platforms.
In response to this growing unrest, Team RICOCHET identified a significant data outage that had been impairing its AI systems. They took action by modifying the thresholds in Ranked Play to better detect suspicious accounts and by expediting the review process for reported incidents.
Overview of the December Update for RICOCHET Anti-Cheat
Activision acknowledged, “We did not hit the mark for the integration of RICOCHET Anti-Cheat at the launch of Season 01 – particularly for Ranked Play.” To rectify this, the company is preparing to deploy a kernel-level driver paired with enhanced server-side protections in the upcoming Seasons 2 and 3. Further details regarding this update will be available as these seasons approach.
The recent update outlines several improvements, which can be explored further in the full update notes. Here’s a summary of the key enhancements:
- Account Enforcement: Rapid account suspensions have become commonplace, with bans implemented on an hourly basis through robust RICOCHET Anti-Cheat measures. Notably, over 19,000 accounts were recently terminated, boosting enforcement response times to unprecedented levels.
- Leaderboard Management: Improvements have been made to accelerate the synchronization process for leaderboard adjustments, ensuring a fairer competitive environment.
- Replay Investigations: The capabilities of the Replay Investigation render farm have been significantly enhanced, allowing for a larger volume of video examinations. A dedicated team now prioritizes reviewing these clips based on detection urgencies, increasing the efficiency in removing dishonest players. Recent updates have proven effective in validating reported incidents and training AI systems to recognize cheating patterns.
The introduction of a kernel-level driver has been a high priority for players ever since cheating issues emerged, signifying strong demand for effective anti-cheat solutions.
Looking ahead, the anticipated start date for Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 is January 28, established based on the current Battle Pass timeline.
