Call of Duty enthusiasts may hold diverse opinions about Modern Warfare 2019, but it’s clear that the opportunity to play this game for a staggering $400,000 would entice nearly any fan. This enticing offer highlights the lucrative marketing strategies utilized within the gaming industry.
One notable figure capitalizing on such opportunities is Myth, a prominent streamer who has garnered significant attention and financial success in the gaming community. YouTube invested $4 million in him to broadcast exclusively on their platform for two years. After his contract concluded, Myth took a hiatus but made a triumphant return to Twitch in December with the resurgence of OG Fortnite.
However, YouTube was not the only major player interested in Myth’s reach. In an interesting revelation, he disclosed receiving $400,000 from Activision to stream Modern Warfare 2019 for just 50 hours over 16 sessions. He remarked, “They paid me $400,000 to play Call of Duty, a game that I was already going to play anyway.”
This financial arrangement certainly raises eyebrows. Paying such an amount for content from a streamer who plans to play the game anyway indicates just how extensive Activision’s marketing budget must be.

The Reactions from Call of Duty Fans
The gaming community was taken aback by the sizeable marketing budget allocated by Activision for Modern Warfare 2019, with many fans expressing their willingness to seize a similar deal. “To put that into perspective, he was getting paid $8,000 per hour,” one user commented, clearly impressed by the lucrative arrangement.
Another fan interjected, “I would have streamed it for 200 hours for that amount.”This sentiment underscores the widespread envy and amazement among fans regarding the financial landscape surrounding top-tier streamers.
Given that Activision was willing to invest such a hefty sum in a single streamer, it stands to reason that other content creators may have received comparable, if not better, offers. Streaming deals like these are not out of the ordinary; earlier in 2023, NICKMERCS disclosed his own financial compensation for hosting a watch party for the CDL Champs, further illustrating the potential earnings in this sphere.
With such attractive streaming opportunities becoming more prevalent, those considering a career in content creation, particularly in anticipation of Call of Duty 2025, may need to take a closer look at their chances in this evolving landscape.
