On October 2nd, a video titled “Breaking News”was uploaded by Kingkong by Starship, the agency of actor Lee Dong-wook, on their official channel. The eye-catching video featured a missing person poster of Lee Dong-wook stating, “Breaking News! Actor Lee Dong-wook is gone!”
In the video, Announcer Jo Jung-sik portrayed a special reporter and set the scene: “I’ve heard that actor Lee Dong-wook has vanished. I’m currently outside Kingkong by Starship, Lee Dong-wook’s agency. There’s quite a stir, but I haven’t spotted any fans searching for him just yet, though I expect they’ll arrive soon.”
He went on to explain, “Lee Dong-wook was supposed to have a fan meeting poster shoot in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, before he disappeared mysteriously, leaving only a shadow behind. As of now, no one knows his whereabouts.”
The “investigation” continued inside the agency as Jo Jung-sik interviewed staff members. Their responses varied from clueless to humorous. One staff member, when questioned about Lee’s disappearance, responded, “I’ve never seen Lee Dong-wook.” When asked, “Who’s your favorite artist in the company?” , she quickly replied, “IVE.” Another employee, upon hearing about Lee Dong-wook’s situation, said, “This is the first I’m hearing of it,” and added, “I think one of our team members saw him. She said he was handsome and has a fair complexion.”
Another employee humorously remarked, “He usually eats after a commercial shoot. He loves Chinese food, especially hot pot. I’m sure he’ll show up if he catches a whiff of it.”
The video took a comedic turn when Jo Jung-sik entered the fan meeting conference room. A staff member there suggested, “He’s a homebody, so he’s probably at home.” When asked about the fan meeting promotion, they joked, “The promotion will stop,” prompting laughter.
Jo Jung-sik noted, “There’s a calendar for Lee Dong-wook’s fan meeting in the background. It’s completely blank. Since Lee Dong-wook hasn’t shown up, there’s no schedule at all, and the staff seems to just be hanging out.” A staff member chimed in playfully, “But does the actor really need to come back?”
The video cleverly turned out to be a promotional piece for Lee Dong-wook’s upcoming fan meeting. Jo Jung-sik concluded with a heartfelt message to fans: “Now, you are our last hope. We want to locate Lee Dong-wook, who has always kept his promises to his fans. The long-awaited fan meeting will take place at Kyung Hee University Grand Peace Palace on November 2nd. If all of you come, I have no doubt that we will meet Lee Dong-wook again. Will we be able to see each other at the fan meeting?”
This innovative marketing strategy has successfully generated excitement for Lee Dong-wook’s 25th anniversary fan meeting, which is scheduled for November 1st at Kyung Hee University Grand Peace Palace. The playful video not only highlights the agency staff’s humor but also showcases their creative fan engagement tactics.
