Actor’s Confusion on Robert Downey Jr’s Casting as Doctor Doom

One of Robert Downey Jr’s well-known co-stars from Iron Man has shared their thoughts on his recent casting as Doctor Doom, expressing their confusion about his new role in the MCU.

Fans of the Marvel franchise were ecstatic upon learning that Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man, would be reprising his role in the MCU. This time, however, he will be taking on the role of Doctor Doom, a widely recognized villain in the comic book world.

At the SDCC, the announcement of a major change in the MCU landscape shook fans. The Russo brothers have been announced as the directors of the upcoming Avengers film, now renamed Doomsday. Their previous works, such as the final two Captain America movies and the epic Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, have left a lasting impact on the MCU and are considered some of the greatest films in the genre, in addition to being extremely successful at the box office.

Despite the news of RDJ taking on the role of Doctor Doom causing a stir on the internet this past weekend, some familiar faces from the MCU also shared their thoughts, including one of Downey Jr’s well-known co-stars from Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Paltrow played the role of Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s romantic partner, in all three Iron Man films. She was also included in subsequent MCU productions, including Spider-Man: Homecoming and the final two Avengers installments.

After making an appearance at Comic-Con, RDJ shared a photo on Instagram where he can be seen holding up a Doctor Doom mask to his face, seemingly preparing for his new role. Among the numerous comments on the post, one that stands out is from Pepper Potts, with Paltrow asking, “So, does this mean you’re playing a villain now?”

It is highly probable that this comment is meant to be humorous due to the strong friendship between Paltrow and RDJ, which has developed through their many years of working together. In a viral interview clip with Jon Favreau, Paltrow famously revealed her lack of knowledge about the MCU, even admitting that she did not recall appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
