Actress-Turned-Businesswoman Accused of Not Paying Employee Wages Despite Court Fine

Korean media outlet Wikitree reported that actress A, who is the owner of a luxury kids’ concept store, allegedly failed to pay her employee B’s wages between 2021 and 2022.

B alleged that she was employed at A’s shop in 2021. She stated that her salary was delayed starting from the fourth month and she only received half of her total salary in the fifth month. Additionally, B asserted that she did not receive payment for two months and was subsequently informed of her termination due to the outstanding wages.

B stated that they were forced to work alone without consent and without a lunch break. Additionally, they were not shown the year-end settlement details and were not provided with the four major insurances that are mandatory for Koreans. B also knows of three to four other employees who were similarly affected.

As a result, B took legal action against A by filing a complaint with the Seoul Eastern District Court for violating the Labor Standards Act. The court’s verdict revealed that A was fined 2.5 million won in March 2023. Despite this, it was reported that A still failed to pay B the unpaid wage.

In 2010, A made her debut in a movie and continued to act until 2018 when she starred in a drama. After her acting career, she married a non-celebrity businessman and is now a mother to a daughter.
