The actress explained that she made the decision to end her marriage after her ex-husband threatened her with a knife during their honeymoon. Yoo Hye-ri recounted, “We had a disagreement while I was cooking, and after some arguing, Lee Geun-hee went to drink alcohol. Suddenly, he returned to the sink and grabbed a knife, stabbing it on the table. I was filled with fear and anger upon witnessing this.”
The actress also revealed that Lee Geun-hee had a tendency to get into fights with people for no apparent reason. She recalled, “We were meeting a friend and I couldn’t understand why he was so agitated that day. After consuming a large amount of alcohol, he unexpectedly threw a chair at a woman who was passing by. It was a shocking moment for everyone and we all tried to intervene and calm him down.”
When Yoo Hye-ri and Lee Geun-hee announced their divorce in 1998, they cited “differences in personalities”as the reason. However, in a recent talk show, the actress revealed that she had been keeping the true reason for their separation a secret for 25 years. Despite never confiding in her family, colleagues, or close friends, she finally opened up about it.
Yoo Hye-ri made her debut at the age of 21 in 1963. She rose to fame for her roles in popular dramas such as “My Lovely Family”, “Miss Mermaid”, “You Are My Destiny”, and “Love Rain”. Similarly, Lee Geun-hee, born in 1960, gained recognition for his lead role in the successful drama “Love Story in Harvard”.
Despite facing opposition from those around her, Yoo Hye-ri and Lee Geun-hee developed a relationship while working together in a theater play. In 1994, Yoo Hye-ri made the decision to marry Lee Geun-hee, but unfortunately, their marriage ended after only 4 years.
