Addressing Dawntrail Server Congestion with New Auto Logout Feature

The developers of Final Fantasy XIV have revealed their intentions to combat server congestion during the launch of Dawntrail by implementing an automatic logout feature, ensuring that only active users are able to remain logged in.

The release of Dawntrail for Final Fantasy XIV is just around the corner, with a plethora of fresh content awaiting players on the live servers. This highly-anticipated update introduces exciting additions such as new dungeons, a new main story questline, new jobs, and a new raid tier, all available for players to immerse themselves in.

Every time a new expansion is released, there is always a large influx of players, whether they are returning or new and eager to play. This typically leads to a high level of server congestion and problems during the expansion’s initial release. Despite the developers’ efforts to accommodate all players and allow them to experience the new content, this is not always possible.

For this reason, the developers of Final Fantasy XIV have decided to introduce a new feature that will automatically log out users who remain AFK for an extended period of time. The goal is to discourage players from staying logged in while AFK in order to bypass the long queue times that are expected upon the game’s launch.

Dawntrail will host a new heap of races as well as new locations to explore.

As stated in a recent blog post by the developers on June 18, it has been announced that players who remain AFK in Dawntrail for more than 30 minutes will be automatically logged out. While this may appear strict at first glance, the intention behind this decision is to prioritize active player engagement and ultimately reduce queue times.

“We understand the importance of actively playing the game, and would like to prioritize those who are interested in doing so. We apologize for any inconvenience, but kindly request that you log out when not actively playing.”

The developers have not disclosed the duration of this feature’s availability, but it is expected to be discontinued at a future date.

Dawntrail is set to launch on July 2nd, 2024, with early access becoming available a week earlier on June 28, 2024.
