On July 19th, ADOR, the agency representing NewJeans, announced that they had discovered a public institution using the artist’s intellectual property without permission for tourism promotion. This was deemed to be a violation of commercial activity.
They elaborated, “The artist’s IP was utilized by the public institution without consent to advertise the region and its space, potentially allowing other enterprises to benefit from associated product promotions. Therefore, we made the decision to take measures.”
The Gwangju Dong-gu Office recently announced that they will be hosting a “birthday cafe”event from that day until July 22nd to celebrate the 2nd debut anniversary of NewJeans. The event will feature a display of NewJeans’ albums, posters, postcards, and cups.
Despite being unauthorized by the agency, these goods raised concerns of potential copyright infringement, leading to the cancellation of the event on July 18th by Gwangju Dong-gu Office.
