ADOR Responds to NewJeans’ Allegations Amidst Rising Tension
On November 28, ADOR provided a detailed 22-page response to allegations made by members of the K-pop group NewJeans. This communication was prompted by concerns raised regarding potential intellectual property violations related to planning materials allegedly copied by Belift Lab.
Claims of Copyright Infringement Addressed
In their correspondence, ADOR firmly denied any involvement in the creation of the disputed documents. They emphasized, “The proposals in question were not documents created by ADOR.” Furthermore, the former director, Min Hee-jin, who initially raised the claims, has not furnished any substantial evidence or support to facilitate investigation into the matter.
Efforts to Uncover the Truth
Despite the claims, ADOR took proactive measures to clarify the situation. They acquired the relevant proposals from Belift Lab and the Source Music team, which dated back to Min Hee-jin’s tenure at Big Hit Music. ADOR shared these findings in a follow-up email on December 8, showcasing their commitment to transparency.
Challenges in Communication
In an attempt to further investigate, ADOR requested supporting documentation from Min Hee-jin on December 15, and reached out again to Belift Lab on December 18 for clarification. However, ADOR reported that both parties failed to provide adequate responses. Belift Lab indicated they had addressed these issues through media interviews, while responses from HYBE were hampered due to the resignation of the whistleblower, resulting in a lack of verifiable evidence to present to the court.
The Risks of Unsubstantiated Allegations
ADOR voiced concerns over the implications of unfounded claims, stating, “In the absence of concrete evidence of plagiarism, hurried allegations will only serve to harm the involved parties.” They further noted that repeated accusations reminiscent of those initiated by Min Hee-jin could perpetuate ongoing disputes without yielding meaningful outcomes or resolution, ultimately damaging the artists’ reputation.
Security Measures Implemented
In consideration of the artists’ safety and confidence, ADOR confirmed they reached out to HYBE’s security team on November 25 to implement special protective measures for the Source Music team’s proposal, which HYBE has subsequently acknowledged.
Public Backlash from K-Netizens
The response from ADOR has elicited significant backlash from K-netizens, who expressed frustration and disappointment. Common sentiments among fans include:
- “What’s going on? Are you a Belift Lab spokesperson?”
- “Who’s making excuses for whom?”
- “Who told you to explain all this? You should be protecting NewJeans!”
- “I’m sick of these guys’ statements.”
- “What’s with caring more about another label’s feelings than your own group?!”
- “They didn’t resolve anything before letting Min Hee-jin go and now they’re asking for materials?”
