ADOR Sues to Validate Exclusive Contract: “Dedicated to Remaining with NewJeans”

ADOR Files Lawsuit to Uphold Exclusive Contract with NewJeans

On December 5, ADOR issued an official statement announcing the initiation of legal proceedings on December 3 in the Seoul Central District Court. The aim of the lawsuit is to validate the exclusive contract between the agency and its rising star group, NewJeans.

Addressing Contractual Integrity

ADOR emphasized the necessity of this legal action, stating, “We did not wish for issues with our artist to be resolved through legal proceedings. However, we deemed it essential to clarify that an exclusive contract cannot be unilaterally terminated based on claims. This decision is aimed at preserving the trust that has been vital to the K-pop industry’s expansion, as well as the overall growth of Korean pop culture. We seek an unequivocal court ruling to maintain this standard.”

NewJeans’ Emergency Press Conference

The situation escalated on November 28 when NewJeans—comprising members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—held an emergency press conference at SpaceShare Samseong Station Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. During the conference, they announced plans to terminate their contract with ADOR as of November 29.

ADOR’s Response to the Artists’ Decision

In light of the announcement, ADOR responded with regret, stating, “It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. We feel compelled to act to prevent any misunderstandings regarding the legal status of the contract, as any erroneous assumptions about termination could lead to actions that violate the existing agreement. Such actions could generate unforeseen consequences for all parties involved.”

ADOR’s Ongoing Commitment

Despite the legal entanglement, ADOR reaffirmed its dedication to NewJeans, asserting, “While we pursue judicial validation of our contract, we recognize the need for open and honest dialogue with the artists. Unfortunately, despite several sincere outreach attempts, we have not been able to communicate with NewJeans. We remain committed to resolving any misunderstandings collaboratively and fully intend to honor the support NewJeans has received by fostering greater opportunities for their continued growth.”

ADOR concluded by requesting the public’s support during this challenging time, expressing hope that both the agency and NewJeans would navigate this situation with wisdom collectively.
