Min Hee-jin Resigns Amidst Rising Tensions with HYBE
On November 20, ADOR publicly expressed its disappointment regarding the resignation of Director Min Hee-jin. In an official statement, the company conveyed, “We deeply regret Min Hee-jin’s unilateral decision to step down. ADOR will do its utmost to support NewJeans in achieving greater growth and success.”
Details of the Resignation Announcement
Min Hee-jin made waves earlier that day by announcing her resignation as an internal director. Alongside her resignation, she terminated her shareholder agreement with HYBE, the parent company, citing intentions to hold HYBE accountable for alleged breaches of that agreement.
Career Trajectory and Achievements
Min Hee-jin joined HYBE in 2019 as the Chief Brand Officer (CBO), where she quickly made her mark. By 2021, she was appointed CEO of ADOR and successfully launched the girl group NewJeans in 2022, which garnered notable popularity.
Escalating Tensions with HYBE
The relationship between Min Hee-jin and HYBE deteriorated significantly in April 2023, when the company conducted an unexpected audit of ADOR. This action raised suspicions of a possible takeover plot involving Min and her team, leading to rising frictions between the parties.
In August, Min Hee-jin was dismissed from her role as CEO. Although offered a position as an internal director by HYBE, she refused the offer, citing unfavorable conditions in the contract.
NewJeans’ Stance on Contractual Agreements
The situation gained further complexity when, on November 13, all five members of NewJeans—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—issued a formal letter to ADOR, signaling their intention to terminate their exclusive contracts unless major contractual violations were resolved within a stipulated 14-day period.
These developments highlight ongoing tensions within the HYBE and ADOR partnership, raising questions about the future for both Min Hee-jin and NewJeans.
