In online communities, there were mixed reactions to aespa Giselle’s facial expression during her “ending fairy”scene.
On June 1, aespa won the top spot on MBC’s music program, “Show! Music Core.”During the show, the group delivered a remarkable performance of their popular song “Supernova,”which was released on May 13, leaving a strong impression on music fans.
Despite everything going smoothly, there was a specific moment on June 2 that received negative feedback from viewers. This was because of a clip featuring the four members performing their individual “ending fairy”poses.
On that day, it appeared as though the members had collectively decided to make cute gestures such as flashing the peace/V-sign, sticking out their tongues, and winking.
Upon observing this, the poses of Karina, Winter, and NingNing were met with great approval, except for Giselle who performed hers in a sassy manner by rolling her eyes instead of winking.
Fans of aespa, known as MYs, were initially amused while watching Giselle and did not give it much thought. However, their perception changed when K-netizens expressed their offense towards the female idol’s facial expression and accused her of making a “sexual innuendo.”
According to K-Netz, the facial expression was deemed “inappropriate”and she was criticized for “crossing the line”with it.

- “I looked at the clip and it wasn’t a random screen capture. She really casually did an ‘ahegao’ face”(Japanese adult film face)
- “Honestly, I just saw a girl doing such a face in a talent show, and I can’t help but think of it in a negative way. I saw it on a gossip site before and that really surprised me.”
However, MYs quickly dismissed these claims and argued that Giselle was simply attempting to make a lighthearted expression.
The fandom continued to express disapproval towards K-netz for assuming that the star would engage in a sexual expression during a broadcast, and rebuked netters for having “perverted”thoughts.
The following are some of the comments:
- “If you think about sexual innuendoes after watching this, it means that your mind has nothing else but gross thoughts in it.”
- “Some of you are really out of their minds? Do you really think an idol would make a sexual expression on air just like that? They care about their public image.”
- “It’s obvious that she’s just doing a playful expression.”
- “You guys are weirdos. Just leave Giselle alone.”
- “What’s wrong with rolling eyes nowadays?”
- “Male idols are grabbing their crotches and female idols can’t even roll their eyes?”
Recently, aespa, the group that Giselle is a part of, unveiled their first full-length album, “Armageddon,”on May 27th. This marks their first studio album in four years since their debut in 2020.
The album featured the popular double title track, “Supernova,”which is currently dominating the real-time and daily charts of top domestic music sites. It also proved its strength by securing the top spot on music broadcasts, even with only the pre-released song.
Moreover, the pre-order count for “Armageddon”has already surpassed 1.02 million, signaling its fourth consecutive million-selling record after their previous releases, “Girls,””My World,”and “Drama.”
