Ningning, a member of aespa, is gaining attention for directly addressing racist remarks directed towards her.
In May 2024, a fan left a comment on Ningning’s Instagram account saying “It’s alright, Lingling.”Much to everyone’s surprise, Ningning actually responded to the fan, replying with a simple “Hello”and an emoji of an irate cat.
Later, Ningning commented, “I am not xingxingdingdinglinglinglingringring.”
The user who referred to Ningning as “Lingling”received significant criticism from fans, as did those who called her “Ringring”or used other variations of her name. This behavior is seen as derogatory and mocking towards East Asians and their accents.
Despite previously addressing the racist comments on her social media, Ningning felt the need to revisit the topic. She recently discussed the issue in a video uploaded on aespa’s official YouTube channel.
During the behind-the-scenes footage of their “Supernova”promotions, Ningning once again brought up the comments she had received. She shared with the camera, “I came across this comment yesterday. A fan wrote, ‘Don’t worry, Lingling.’”

Ningning swiftly interrupted her, correcting the user. She shook her head and showed a momentary look of disappointment before firmly stating, “Excuse me, but I am not Lingling. I am Ningning.”
It is widely believed that this issue is a major source of concern for Ningning, prompting SM Entertainment to ensure the inclusion of this clip in the video, even though it was released a month after the initial problem.
Despite Ningning’s attempt to maintain a smile while addressing the situation, MYs (aespa’s fan base) wasted no time in sharing the clip online and urged others to refrain from jokingly calling her the wrong name.

Conversely, Ningning was commended by many for her direct approach in addressing the issue, which was both assertive and respectful.
