aespa to Release Controversial New Song Following “Supernova”, Igniting Mixed Reactions

On October 21, aespa is set to unveil their fifth mini-album titled “Whiplash.” This upcoming project embodies the theme, “The empowered ‘me’ transforms into the ‘game changer’ that opens new realms,”highlighting aespa’s confident and stylish persona.

This release follows the remarkable achievements of their previous hit “Supernova,” which made waves on various music charts earlier this year, leading to heightened excitement among fans.

In this album, aespa takes a bold step into the EDM-centric techno genre, marking the debut of their title track “Whiplash.”

According to Choi Sung-woo, the chief director at SM ONE PRODUCTION, the goal was to highlight aespa’s transforming musical style. He noted, “While it might not fall into the mainstream realm like ‘Supernova’ and might receive mixed responses, we aimed to infuse aespa’s unique artistry onto an EDM foundation—something they haven’t explored before.”

He further expressed, “The whole team, including the members, shared the desire to give back to the fans who embraced their last album with something innovative. We hope listeners will react positively, saying things like, ‘aespa can excel in this genre too,’ or ‘Who else could pull this off but aespa?’”

Currently, aespa is in the midst of their second global tour, *SYNK: PARALLEL LINE*, which kicked off in Seoul this past June. Their journey has taken them across Asia and Australia, with performances in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Australia. In the upcoming year, they plan to extend their tour to North America and Europe, including stops in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain.
