Aespa Winter’s Near-Decision to Not Sign with SM Entertainment

Despite almost missing her opportunity, Winter successfully debuted with aespa. The idol recently revealed that she had contemplated not signing with SM Entertainment.

During a recent livestream, Winter shared that she had considered signing with a different company. As many fans are aware, Winter was initially discovered during a school festival. While she did not disclose the company she almost committed to, she mentioned that she had verbally agreed to undergo training with them. Nonetheless, she had kept a positive connection with her casting agent at SM Entertainment and opted to inform them about the contract offer before making it official.

Despite the casting agent at SM Entertainment requesting one more meeting, Winter impressed with her improved skills. As a result, the company offered her a contract, and she ultimately decided to train under SM Entertainment.

When asked about the experience, the idol responded by saying,

“I actually received an offer from another company. Although I can’t reveal the name, we were just about to finalize the contract. We had already agreed to sign. However, I had maintained a good relationship with the SM Entertainment staff who had initially cast me, so I informed them that I was likely going to sign with the other label. They requested to see me before I committed to the other contract. Right before I was about to sign, I thought to myself, if it works out with SM Entertainment, great; if not, then it’s okay. The period between my last meeting with SM Entertainment and the signing was very short. During that time, I managed to show how much I improved to the SM Entertainment staff. Surprisingly, they asked me to try training with them, and that’s how I ended up joining SM Entertainment.”
