aespa’s Image Evolution: From Innocent to Virtual Avatars

aespa’s Image Evolution: From Innocent to Virtual Avatars

On X, MYs emphasized the crucial role of Giselle in shaping aespa’s current concept, moving away from an innocent one.

Despite being a fourth-generation idol group, aespa departed from the typical pure and innocent Y2K image and instead embraced a one-of-a-kind concept that connects AI characters and real humans.

Instead of using popular easy-listening music to explore themes of friendship and love, the quartet opted for a bolder approach that incorporates otherworldly creatures like “naevis”and “black mamba.”

Despite their unconventional concept, they were able to captivate not only K-pop fans but also mainstream music lovers, solidifying their distinctiveness and creativity compared to other girl groups.

Nevertheless, aespa revealed that before their KWANGYA concept, the members had almost adopted an innocent image. Giselle played a crucial role in transforming this for the better.

Recently, a fan shared a clip from the official February release of the documentary “The aespa: My First Page.”The film features several stories about the members prior to their debut in November 2020.

During the clip, Karina disclosed:

“When it was just the three of us, we used to practice a lot of innocent concepts. After doing a lot of the same concept, Giselle came.”

Karina went on to explain how Giselle’s involvement played a significant role in SM’s decision to debut them with their current concept.

“Just like that, the concept became clear. Not too strong, not too weak, just in between and perfectly balanced. Giselle matched so well with us. Now that the members are formed like this, we are all so thankful to her.”

Upon viewing the clip, MYs (aespa fandom) conveyed their adoration for Giselle and extended gratitude towards her for her crucial role in the formation of aespa as it stands today.

Some netizens criticized Giselle for allegedly not matching the other members, but fans also used the video to defend her from these hateful comments.

  • “This is why Giselle is the backbone of aespa.”
  • “Glueselle.”
  • “Thank you, Giselle!”
  • “Giselle’s presence completes aespa.”
  • “What if I cried.”
  • “And some people want to discredit and out her from the group.”
  • “Hot girl, we love you “
  • “It’s ridiculous for fans who claim to be Mys to hate Giselle and wish her out of aespa. Giselle is the missing puzzle piece and Giselle is the backbone of aespa.”
