After 400 hours, a Baldur’s Gate 3 player realizes why the Artist should not be saved

Freeing the Artist is a quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 that has often caused a lot of frustration among fans. However, one player discovered after 400 hours why Oskar is best left in the hands of the Zhentarims.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has an interesting approach to questing. Often, even if you make the “right”choice, players have discovered that you can be punished for it. This shows that not everyone deserves to be saved.

Freeing the Artist is just such a side quest. Moreover, players have been expressing their frustration regarding it for some time now. Warning, spoilers.

You can find the Zhentharim hideout, where Oskar the Artist is being held, hidden in a storage unit at the back of Waukyn’s Rest. You can access it either by helping the Zhentarims besieged by Gnolls just outside Waukyn’s Rest and obtaining the password to get through.

Once inside, you can either demand Oskar’s freedom or simply buy his freedom from Brem. Either way, you should be able to save it. You can then find him at Baldur’s Gate in Lady Jannath’s House of Art.

However, when you find him again in Act 3, the house is full of poltergeists and Oskar is possessed himself, screaming Lady Jannath and making life hell for him.

So the Sylassian player learned that it’s not worth saving Oskar and he explained why. Indeed, if you do not do so, Lady Jannath is never subject to this haunting. “Today I learned, after almost 400 hours of play, that if you don’t free Oscar from the Zents in Act I, he never appears at Baldur’s Gate and curses Lady Jannath’s home.”.
