On July 22, Hwang Jung-eum’s agency Y-One Entertainment confirmed that she is dating basketball player Kim Jong-kyu, who is seven years younger. The agency stated that although the couple has recently developed feelings for each other, they are still approaching the situation with caution.
Later on, SPOTV News disclosed that the basketball player in question is Kim Jong-kyu. While Hwang Jung-eum‘s representatives chose not to confirm the news, citing privacy issues, several eyewitness testimonies have supported the speculations of the two dating.
Born in 1991, Kim Jong-kyu is seven years younger than Hwang Jung-eum, who was born in 1984. He towers over Hwang Jung-eum by about 40 cm, standing at an impressive height of 206 cm.
Despite the dating rumors, Kim Jong-kyu’s social media was met with a combination of positive and negative reactions from netizens. While some left encouraging messages like “Wishing you a lovely relationship”and “Congratulations, love knows no boundaries or age,”others expressed their disapproval with comments such as “You need to compose yourself”and “I used to admire you, but now I’m let down.”
In 2016, Hwang Jung-eum tied the knot with professional golfer and businessman Lee Young-don. The couple welcomed their first son in 2017. Despite filing for divorce mediation in September 2020, they decided to work on their relationship and reconciled in July 2021. They recently welcomed their second son in March 2022.
Despite previous efforts, Hwang Jung-eum’s team officially stated in February that they have come to the decision that their marriage is no longer sustainable and are now moving forward with divorce proceedings. Hwang Jung-eum also shared a photo of Lee Young-don on her social media with a cryptic message alluding to him being the reason for their separation.
In April, Hwang Jung-eum mistakenly accused a woman, identified as A, of being her husband’s mistress and shared her photo publicly. A denied any involvement with Lee Young-don and stated that she had suffered from malicious comments and other damages as a result of Hwang Jung-eum’s actions. Despite Hwang Jung-eum’s efforts to reach a settlement with A, the attempt failed and A ended up filing a defamation lawsuit against her.
