Episode 2 of Agatha All Along showcases Teen’s journey alongside Agatha as they continue the search for her coven, unveiling a range of Marvel witches making their debut in the MCU.
In Episode 1, Agatha was introduced as Agnes, Westview’s unyielding detective. It turns out she had been enchanted by Wanda Maximoff following the events of WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
This new Disney+ series features the return of numerous familiar faces from Westview and introduces new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – including Joe Locke as Teen and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal.
Viewers can anticipate more thrilling developments in Agatha All Along Episode 2. Before diving into the complete recap, be warned: major spoilers ahead!
The Witches’ Road Continues
After the title card, “Circle Sewn with Fate Unlock Thy Hidden Gate,”the scene shifts to Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) urgently preparing to escape before the Salem Seven arrive.
She tells Teen (still tied and gagged), “The house is yours, random boy. Be sure to tell the vengeance seekers I said hi.”
After managing to free his mouth, Teen asks Agatha to guide him to The Witches’ Road, the enchanted path accessible only to sorcerers.
Agatha dismisses his claim, but he retorts, “That’s just what real witches say to keep the amateurs out. The road will give you the thing you want the most… if you reach the end. And I can. I will.”
Curious about his vast knowledge, Agatha probes further, prompting Teen to reveal, “I know an egregious amount about you. I’ve been obsessed since I first read up on your Salem days – one of my favorite eras.”
This obsession is what led him to “save”her from the spell she was under in Agatha All Along Episode 1.
However, Agatha remains skeptical, saying, “If you’ve got the power to break a spell by the Scarlet Witch, why do you need the Road?”
Teen explains that despite his extensive magical studies, he seeks greater powers: “The Road promises that what’s missing awaits you at the end. Power is what I’m missing. Seems like you might be missing it too.”
Teen’s Mysterious Identity
Agatha deems the venture too perilous, but stops in her tracks upon discovering her missing pendant on the floor, opening it to reveal a lock of hair within.
“Who are you?”she inquires. However, when he replies, a mysterious shield obscures his mouth, censoring his name.
The prevailing theory is that Locke’s character is Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch, but Episode 2 has yet to unveil his true identity.
Agatha urges him to repeat his name, again met with a squiggle covering his mouth.
This compelling mystery persuades Agatha to allow the teen to join her… on The Road.
To embark on this journey, they will need to gather a coven, described in the MCU as a group of witches “drawn together by mysterious forces of fate.”
Introducing Lilia Calderu
As they leave Westview, Agatha explains, with her characteristic sarcasm, a covenstead principle: there’s always a collection of magically-inclined individuals within a three-mile radius to form a coven.
“All we need is a bit of talent,”she declares. “Even the most downtrodden witches, when in close proximity, spark magic.”
First stop? A psychic shop, where Agatha hopes to scout some talent. Upon entering, they encounter Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone).
Familiar with Agatha’s infamous reputation, Lilia declines involvement: “I didn’t read your fortune. I read your reputation. Witches like you are the reason people think we poison apples and steal children.”
With her usual wit, Agatha retorts, “Babies are delicious.”Though her sales pitch falters, Lilia’s curiosity piques when Agatha mentions The Road.
Nevertheless, Lilia remains wary, suspecting Agatha aims to drain her powers. Agatha clarifies that she can only do so if she blasts her with magic.
Pointing to the eviction notice on Lilia’s door, Agatha challenges her, suggesting her life is stagnant: “Join me and reclaim your clairvoyant glory,”she entices.
When Lilia turns them down, her powers activate, revealing a list of four names destined to form the coven.
Handing Agatha the list, Lilia indicates she’s free to leave. But there’s a catch – Lilia’s name is included as well. Teen provides Agatha’s address, instructing Lilia to arrive by 5 PM.
As they exit, Agatha spots a crow in the parking lot, visibly disturbed by its presence.
Completing the Coven
The next target is another sorcerer with whom Agatha has a history: Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata). When they reach Jen’s wellness store, the tension is palpable.
Agatha gets straight to the point: “I’m assembling a coven. I need a potions expert. We’re going to walk The Road.”
Much like Lilia, Jen is skeptical. As with Lilia, Agatha presents a compelling reason for her to join. Apparently, Jen has been ensnared in a binding spell for a century, leaving her powerless. After pressing her, Jen admits her desperation to regain her powers.
Undeterred by The Road’s grim reputation, Teen chimes in, reminding Jen that she’s currently “drowning”in lawsuit repercussions after one of her products caused superficial burns to several customers. A persuasive argument indeed – her options boil down to prison or joining them.
They depart with Jen now considering her options, moving on to their final witch.
Their next visit leads them to a blood witch – a child of a witch – Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), another sorcerer from Marvel comics and daughter of Launa Wu, a famous rock band singer.
They head to the mall to track her down, at which point Agatha is once again put off by an animal – this time a rat. They find Alice in a Hot Topic-style store, where Agatha shares a rumor about how Alice’s mother vanished due to The Witches’ Road.
They devise a plan to stage a fake robbery, resulting in Alice losing her job. When they propose she join as their “protector,”Alice dismisses the notion, asserting she doesn’t believe The Road is real, considering it a myth conjured by her mother for a song called ‘The Ballad.’
Agatha argues that joining them could unveil the truth behind her mother’s fate, but Alice walks away before Teen can give her their address.
Summoning The Road
Agatha decides they’re fine without Alice, making their way home. On the drive back, she asks Teen about his background – but once he starts revealing details, his voice is muted once more.
Back home, Agatha embraces her witchy essence and confidently steps outside, only to be confronted by a wolf.
She backs indoors, and the assembled coven arrives – including Alice, who managed to find the address due to her former career as a cop.
Eager to initiate their journey, Agatha is told they need a Green Witch. “Says who?”responds Agatha, to which Jen cites “‘The Ballad.’ Wake thy power earthly and divine… Earth magic is arguably the most vital skill set for the attempt at The Road.”
Lilia reveals there was a fourth name listed, but instead of a name, it’s represented by a black heart – hinting at Rio Vidal.
Unwilling to take risks after their last encounter, Agatha conscripts the unsuspecting Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp).
She leads them to the basement to conjure the path to The Road, ensuring Teen is sent upstairs. They start by singing ‘The Ballad’ in hopes of unlocking the portal.
However, as they belt it out, Teen notices a troubling sight – seven hooded figures approaching the house. It appears the Salem Seven have arrived, explaining Agatha’s unease around animals throughout the day.
The Salem Seven Close In
As the Salem Seven encroach towards the house, Teen barricades himself while the witches in the basement squabble. Their rendition of the ballad seems ineffective, and they blame each other’s singing abilities.
Before long, the ominous figures infiltrate the home, alarming Teen. Given the show’s tone, their terrifying appearance wouldn’t be out of place in a horror movie.
As the witches bicker, a banging sound from above draws their attention, revealing a glowing door that has mysteriously appeared beneath them.
Arming themselves with courage, they open it to uncover a mystical staircase leading downward. Before they can muster the bravery to enter, Teen rushes downstairs, pursued by the Salem Seven.
With no time to lose, he jumps into the portal, closely followed by the rest, including Sharon.
Once the door seals shut, the portal closes, and the group cautiously approaches what seems to be The Witches’ Road.
The pathway is breathtaking, illuminated by moonlight, prompting everyone to remove their shoes as they prepare to embark on their journey.
