Agatha All Along Episode 3 Recap: A Journey Through Tricks and Trials

In Episode 1 and Episode 2 of Agatha All Along, viewers were introduced to the perilous journey that Agatha and her coven are embarking on in pursuit of their deepest desires. Episode 3, however, provided a chilling glimpse into how treacherous the path to power can truly be.

The group finds themselves far away from the familiar surroundings of the Scarlet Witch’s Westview, as their initial challenge on this witches’ journey forced them to confront some of their most profound fears.

Moreover, Episode 3 offered one of the most significant clues about the series’ potential antagonist, so let’s dive into the details of what unfolded in this thrilling installment. Before proceeding, please be warned: major spoilers ahead!

The episode kicks off with the title card, “Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials,” indicating that the coven is about to face a multitude of challenges on their quest for ultimate power.

Each coven member reacts differently to the witches’ road; Teen expresses excitement, stating it’s “just like I imagined it,” while Lilia and Alice discuss how they never believed the road was real.

Sharon interrupts the group’s chatter, accusing them of kidnapping her and attempting to use her phone to “involve the local authorities.” Unfortunately for her, Verizon’s coverage doesn’t extend to magical realms.

Lilia, Alice, and Jennifer remind Sharon that they were chased into the road by Salem’s Seven, currently posing as the series’ main threat.

Jennifer dismisses their existence as merely “Agatha’s problem,” but Alice counters that the Seven are now a collective issue they must confront, with Teen noting that “covens share blessings and burdens alike,” highlighting the strict code witches follow.

While Sharon still believes they are beneath Westview, Jennifer confronts Agatha angrily, questioning her decision to bring a non-witch into their perils, claiming it endangers them all.

Lilia recalls the line “tame your fears” from the Witches’ Ballad and realizes that the coven must face their worst nightmares as trials to reach their goal.

The group asks Agatha how the trials work, and she explains that each stop will test the knowledge and skills of one witch. Consequently, while the trials endanger them collectively, only one will have the chance to save them.

Teen becomes thrilled at the idea of true witchcraft, prompting Jennifer to question his identity, a mysterious symbol obscuring it once again.

Lilia realizes that a sigil spell conceals Teen’s identity from the group. Initially suspecting Agatha, she learns otherwise. Teen is unaware of his enchanted state, leading Alice to explain that a sigil is meant to hide someone from witches.

Amid popular theories suggesting that Teen is Wanda Maximoff’s son, it’s possible the sigil protects his identity from Agatha. Another theory regarding Teen also arises but will be explored later.

Despite wanting to lift the sigil to reveal Teen’s identity, Agatha refocuses their attention on the trials ahead, and the women agree to investigate later.

Just as they prepare to move on, Teen discovers that Sharon has wandered away during the interrogation of Agatha.

Believing she remains in the mortal realm, Sharon finds a mossy tree trunk and sets her purse down as she contemplates her next move.

Suddenly, a dark ooze begins to pull her purse into its depths. As she attempts to retrieve it, the ooze nearly ensnares her until Alice rushes in to save her.

Agatha then establishes the first rule of their journey: never step off the road unless you wish to meet your demise.

The group agrees to stay together, and only then does Jennifer spot a beach house in the distance, indicating they have reached the first stop on the road.

Upon reaching the house, they notice the door marked with the phases of the moon, with the water phase—representing a full moon—highlighted.

Entering the unlocked home, their outfits transform into beach-appropriate attire. Agatha explains that the road alters their surroundings, hinting at future outfit changes.

While searching for clues, Teen discovers an elegant card on the mantle that reads: “The Witches’ Road cordially invites you to the First Trial.”

Jennifer snatches it from him and flips it over to reveal a riddle: “My age has no value. I’m no fun alone. I mess with your mind. My tricks are well-known.”

Sharon then finds a bottle of wine with five glasses and the coven agrees to drink it, believing it leads them closer to solving the riddle.

The group breaks into pairs to find a corkscrew, allowing Jennifer to caution Teen to “watch your back with Agatha.”

Teen brushes off her concern, prompting her to reveal that many in the magical realm believe Agatha exchanged her son, Nicholas, for the Darkhold, also known as the Book of the Damned.

Teen’s reaction suggests either shock at Agatha’s dark past or fuels speculation that he might be her son in disguise.

Jennifer elaborates that the child’s fate remains unknown, with theories surrounding his potential death, demonic transformation, or connection to Mephisto—Marvel’s version of the devil.

This marks the first mention of Mephisto in the MCU, a character many speculated might appear in WandaVision due to his comic connections with the Scarlet Witch. His role in the ongoing narrative remains uncertain.

After finding the corkscrew, Agatha, Sharon, Lilia, Alice, and Jennifer drink the wine while Teen remains sober due to his age.

Sharon quickly downs two glasses to cope with the stress of the situation, triggering a 30-minute timer that signals the trial’s commencement.

As the others sip their wine, Agatha discreetly pours hers into a plant, only for the glass to refill magically since the road requires everyone to drink to proceed.

The coven begins to bond over light conversations, during which Teen queries Alice about a tattoo depicting the witches’ symbol for warding off curses.

Alice recounts how her mother insisted she get it at 13 in Colorado, stating: “all of the women in my family are cursed,” to which Teen replies, “A lot happened to me at 13 too.” This adds another layer to Teen’s mysterious backstory.

The lighthearted exchange is cut short when Jennifer notices Sharon’s face dramatically swelling, a symptom soon affecting the other women, leaving only Agatha unaffected.

Jennifer quickly deduces that the wine was poisoned with Alewife’s Revenge, warning the group that they must concoct an antidote quickly to avoid hallucinations and possible death.

Agatha attempts to escape by throwing a candlestick at the window, producing only a sizable crack.

Sharon passes out from the poison, pushing the group to convince Agatha to drink the wine, so they can face the trial as one.

Taking charge due to her potion expertise, Jennifer sends the group to find the needed ingredients for a cure.

While searching for petroleum, Lilia enters a trance, repeating “Try to save Agatha.” However, she regains normalcy before clarifying her statement.

Tasked with retrieving eucalyptus, Teen and Alice find themselves in a sauna. Inside, Alice hallucinates about her missing mother, August, who cries out that she can’t protect Alice from the harm befalling their family.

Meanwhile, Jennifer fights off an old-time doctor who refers to her as an “inconvenient woman” while trying to drown her in the kitchen’s deep sink.

Lilia becomes distracted by a little girl in regal attire, who leads her to a room with a corpse resembling her attire. The woman’s eyes open, and Lilia is confronted by a hooded skeleton figure.

Fleeing the room, she encounters Agatha, exclaiming in Italian, “She’s dead! They’re all dead!”

The group reconvenes in the kitchen, realizing they’ve each endured horrifying hallucinations, except for Agatha, who consumes the wine last, hence facing symptoms at a slower rate.

After adding their respective ingredients to the sink in a specific order, the mixture turns pink, which alarms Jennifer as it must boil to shift to a safe cerulean hue.

Teen rushes to find a sous vide, explaining he knows what it is because “his dad loves his.”

Jennifer instructs Teen to stir the mixture counterclockwise, noting his immunity to the poison allows him to maintain proper motor function while the others struggle.

She then instructs everyone to pull out a strand of hair to complete the antidote. However, just before she can do so, Agatha finally experiences her hallucination, seeing a baby crib in the kitchen.

Expecting to find her son, she instead discovers the cover of the Darkhold.

Teen inquires what she sees, but Agatha brushes him off, discontented by his persistent inquiries.

After adding their hair into the mixture, it turns green, causing panic as the timer shows only two minutes remain before death.

Jennifer begins to lose hope, but Agatha encourages her, reminding her that “No one can take away your knowledge,” despite feeling immobilized.

Realizing that the antidote requires the blood of the unpoisoned, they cut Teen’s hand over the sink, and the mixture finally turns cerulean.

All the witches, including the unconscious Sharon, consume the antidote as the kitchen oven door unveils an exit to the road, just as the window crack bursts and seawater floods the house.

As the group rejoices in their success with Jennifer celebrating their escape, Teen ominously reveals, “Sharon’s dead.”
