Agency CEO Receives Suspended Jail Sentence for Assaulting Idol with Metal Rod Over Manager’s Romance

Seoul Court Trials Former Agency CEO for Assault and Child Abuse

On the 14th, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 16 conducted its preliminary trial against a former agency CEO, identified as A, faced with serious allegations including special injury, special assault, and child abuse. Following the trial, the court sentenced A to a one-year prison term, suspended for three years, coupled with a mandate to perform 120 hours of community service.

In addition to individual charges, the agency itself was fined 5 million won for violations under the Child Welfare Act.

Details of the Assault Incident

The accusations stem from an incident in June of the previous year. It was reported that A attacked B, a minor member of a music group, at the group’s dormitory after discovering B’s romantic involvement with the group’s manager. A confronted B over what was perceived as a breach of company policy and contractual obligations related to dating someone affiliated with the agency.

When B refuted the claims, A reportedly responded with violence, striking B multiple times on the thighs and hips. Furthermore, A allegedly struck B and other group members with a metal hanger, citing the dormitory’s unclean bathroom as justification for this aggression.

Court’s Findings and Sentencing Considerations

The court noted the particularly disturbing nature of the assaults, stating, “A assaulted children, who had difficulty resisting or defending themselves, multiple times with a pre-prepared hanger rod, causing injuries that took four weeks to heal after medical treatment. The level of the assault was so severe that the hanger rod even broke.”

Despite the gravity of the offenses, the sentencing took into account several mitigating factors. A admitted to all charges, resigned from the CEO position, and reached a financial settlement of 80 million won with one of the victims. Notably, A also settled with all other victims and had no previous record of similar legal issues.
