Fans expressed their dissatisfaction with Artist Company’s management and promotion of actress Kim Hye-yoon on May 9th. They noted the disparity between her activities and those of her co-star Byun Woo-seok and criticized the company for not promoting her enough.
In the first week of May, “Lovely Runner,”starring Kim Hye-yoon and Byun Woo-seok, surpassed tvN’s Sat-Sun drama “Queen of Tears”and claimed the top spot in the TV-OTT drama rankings released by Good Data Corporation. The lead actors, who have been generating buzz since the first episode, continue to prove their popularity as they hold the top two spots in the popularity chart for TV-OTT drama cast.
With the drama’s increasing popularity, Byun Woo-seok is actively promoting himself. This includes not only embarking on his first Asian fanmeeting tour since his debut, but also making appearances on popular entertainment programs like SBS’s “Running Man”and tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block”. Additionally, he has also opened accounts on Weverse and Weverse DM, providing a private platform for him to communicate with his fans.
Despite the growing popularity of the drama, Kim Hye-yoon has not participated in any promotional activities like her co-star. Due to this, fans have started to express their disappointment with her management agency for their neglectful actions. Even though Kim Hye-yoon signed an exclusive contract with Artist Company on April 15th, her promotion has been minimal. Fans have raised concerns about the agency’s poor management of her fan community and the fact that her profile is not registered on popular portal sites, leading to speculation that the company may be disregarding the actress.
On the 9th, Kim Hye-yoon comforted her fans by sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos of “Lovely Runner” on her personal social media account. The next day at 10 p.m., Artist Company promptly provided an update on Kim Hye-yoon’s promotional schedule. They announced that the actress had already completed a magazine photoshoot and also confirmed her upcoming interviews with international media outlets as well as her appearance on the YouTube show “Jang Do-yeon’s Salon Drip” on May 17th.
Despite the company’s prompt response to fans’ frustration and criticism by providing clarification, it is clear that Kim Hye-yoon’s promotional activities fall short in comparison to Byun Woo-seok’s. As is expected with an actor filming a drama, there are typically additional obligations such as photoshoots, interviews with both Korean and overseas media, and appearances on various YouTube channels. While Kim Hye-yoon is performing well, it seems that the company is only providing her with the bare minimum in terms of promotional efforts.
