Aging Devil’s Connection to Death Devil in Chainsaw Man and Its Implications for Public Safety

In recent weeks, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga series has reached chaotic and unpredictable heights, drawing significant attention from fans. The latest chapters have been so intense that readers appear to have almost overlooked the pending deal between the Aging Devil, Public Safety, and the Japanese government.

Specifically, the Aging Devil has proposed to be consumed by Chainsaw Man, or Pochita, in exchange for the elimination of 10,000 children with Japanese citizenship. This deal was approved by the Japanese government due to its potential benefits for humanity, but Pochita intervened by erasing the Mouth Devil, preventing the contract from going forward.

While it seems likely that the Mouth Devil’s return could allow the deal to proceed, readers are questioning the rationale behind the Aging Devil’s offer. The Aging Devil has nothing to gain from the deal, which has led fans to theorize that its motives may be linked to an allegiance with the Death Devil.

The Implications of the Death Devil’s Potential Return in Chainsaw Man

The crux of the issue is that the Aging Devil stands to gain nothing from this contract. Any increase in power from sacrificing children would be nullified if it were consumed by Pochita.

Throughout the series, Fujimoto has emphasized that Devils must adhere to their contracts or face serious repercussions. It seems the Aging Devil is not merely attempting to deceive Public Safety to enhance its own power. However, evidence from Chainsaw Man Part 2 suggests the answer may lie in a Devil’s summoning process.

In general, Devils in Chainsaw Man cannot traverse between Hell and Earth without dying, with two exceptions: the Hell Devil, who can defy this rule, and Pochita, who is largely exempt from such limitations. Notably, in the Falling Devil arc, the Falling Devil was able to manifest on Earth by instigating a mass human sacrifice, which allowed it to create an avatar.

The Falling Devil is a Primal Devil, akin to the Aging Devil. Primal Devils are described as “transcendent” beings, often surpassing the Four Horsemen Devils in power. This implies that certain Devils might require mass human sacrifices to be summoned. Therefore, it’s plausible that the formidable Death Devil might need a similar summoning process.

Additionally, some fans speculate that the Death Devil could be a Primal Fear Devil, which would further support the idea that a mass sacrifice is necessary for its summoning. The Aging Devil might be collaborating with the Death Devil to use the 10,000 children’s sacrifice to summon or create an avatar for Death, thus facilitating her return to Earth and potentially fulfilling Nostradamus’ prophecy.

The Death Devil is presumably powerful enough to necessitate such a significant sacrifice. Previously, Control Devil Nayuta referred to her as the most powerful of the Four Horsemen Devils. Considering this, her abilities may rival those of a Primal Fear Devil. While both Control Devil Makima and War Devil Yoru struggled against Primal Devils, they still managed to hold their own.

This context explains why the Aging Devil would feel compelled to undertake such a sacrifice; for Public Safety and the Japanese government to accept such a drastic measure, the perceived gains must match the immense cost. Therefore, the Aging Devil’s self-sacrifice could be the only way to persuade Public Safety to endorse the plan. Although this remains speculative, it strongly suggests that this might be the Aging Devil’s true intention behind cooperating with Public Safety.
