Airlines are Going Viral as Influencers Travel with Their Pets

A TikToker’s viral video showcases her experience using BarkAir for dog-friendly travel with her four-legged companion.

Melanie Demi, known as ‘herboozytails’ on TikTok, is a travel creator and proud “dog mom of four”. She regularly documents her dog-friendly adventures on the social media platform.

Melanie’s most popular pinned videos on TikTok showcase her experiences of taking dogs on flights. Recently, she was given the opportunity to try out BarkAir, a legitimate airline designed specifically for dogs.

BarkAir’s main objective is to provide a “white paw experience”where the entire flight is focused on meeting the needs of dogs above all else.

Melanie captured the entire experience on video, showcasing how she and her furry companion Brooklyn were picked up in a car and taken to BarkAir’s exclusive terminal.

Upon meeting the captain and acquiring a passport for Brooklyn, the duo smoothly boarded the private charter flight without any complications. Prior to takeoff, the dogs were given the opportunity to relieve themselves.

Before the flight, BarkAir CEO Matt Meeker made an announcement to all passengers and provided them with menus and earmuffs for their canine companions. He mentioned that there were numerous amenities available for the dogs, including doggy champagne and a plethora of treats for Brooklyn to enjoy.

Melanie further clarified that the nature of each flight may vary, depending on the behavior of the flying dogs. She mentioned that if the dogs are friendly, well-behaved, and under voice control, they are allowed to move freely during the flight.

Despite the high cost of $8,000 for a ticket from New York to London, the luxury experience only offers 10 seats on the plane. Melanie acknowledged that this may not be feasible for many pet parents, but the ultimate goal is to make this type of travel more accessible.

Despite Melanie’s video going viral and amassing over one million views, users on TikTok were shocked by the expensive cost. One individual even humorously commented, “Looks like my dogs are wondering if we’re broke now…”

One individual wrote, “I am fond of the concept, but it is unfortunate that it comes with such a high price. How will this effectively address a major issue for ordinary individuals?”

Melanie states that the company’s goal is to increase affordability for their flights in the future. BarkAir is also focused on expanding their reach and connecting to more cities, while simultaneously putting effort into providing safer and more accessible options for dog-friendly travel.
