As the One Piece story approaches its climax, fans are eagerly discussing the potential fates of their beloved characters. Although there is no official confirmation on which characters will make it to the end and which ones may meet their end, fans enjoy speculating on Eiichiro Oda’s intentions.
According to rumors, the author hinted that one of the Straw Hat members may meet their end before the crew reaches the One Piece. This has led to speculation that Usopp may be the one destined to die, although there is no evidence to support this theory. Similarly, there is the possibility that Admiral Kizaru may meet a similar fate, as his pursuit of justice may lead to his eventual downfall, especially as he displays a more laid-back attitude towards Bonney and the Straw Hats.
Despite various theories and speculations, there is still one character whose role remains a mystery to fans in the final saga of the series – the current Fleet Admiral, Akainu. Some believe that his constantly shifting sense of justice may lead him to confront his own superiors and align with their enemies in the ultimate battle.
Please note: The following article includes possible spoilers from the One Piece manga and reflects the author’s personal opinions.
Exploring the Actions of Akainu in the Final Saga of One Piece
Sakazuki, also known as Admiral Akainu, is a prominent antagonist in the series. He was initially introduced as part of the main trio of Admirals in the first part of the series. Following a fierce battle with Admiral Kuzan, who ultimately left the Navy after being defeated by Akainu, Sakazuki was promoted to the position of Fleet Admiral.
From the beginning of the series, Akainu has always been portrayed as a strict enforcer of justice who harbors a deep hatred for pirates. This disdain for them has been evident in his actions, highlighted by his brutal killing of Portgas D Ace in front of his younger brother, Monkey D Luffy, during the Marineford battle.
Surprisingly, despite their close relationship, Akainu and the World Government adhere to different ideologies. While Akainu follows the motto of ‘Thorough Justice,’ the World Government upholds ‘Absolute Justice.’
‘Thorough Justice’ and ‘Absolute Justice’ are two terms that signify different approaches to administering justice. While the former involves thoroughly studying a matter before making a judgment, the latter follows a particular set of standards, established by the World Government. This distinction could potentially highlight a difference between Akainu and the World Government.
In One Piece chapter 1113, Saint Saturn also disclosed that during the Ohara Incident, Akainu allowed Nico Robin to flee from the island. This indicates that at some point during the incident, Akainu became more lenient. However, in chapter 397, he ordered the Marines to destroy the civilian ships of Ohara in order to ensure the complete eradication of everyone. So, it is puzzling as to why he would show mercy towards Nico Robin.
This could be attributed to his dedication to upholding justice, as he recognized the injustice in executing Nico Robin. So, what could transpire when Akainu becomes aware of the true intentions of the Five Elders and Imu? It is possible that things may take an intriguing turn, as Akainu may find himself at odds with the World Government, but remain loyal to the Navy.
It has been established in the series that Akainu’s stronghold is within the Marine Corps, given his role as Fleet Admiral. This suggests that in the ultimate saga, viewers may witness him challenging the Five Elders and Imu alongside his fellow Marine officers. The Revolutionary Army is also a powerful faction with the goal of bringing down the World Government.
While it is possible that this is when Akainu aligns himself with Dragon, it is also plausible that the two have a undisclosed history. Dragon, a former Marine officer, left the organization in search of his own sense of justice after finding it lacking within the Marine Corps. Considering Akainu’s early enlistment in the Marines, it is likely that he may have encountered Dragon at some point.
Despite Dragon’s betrayal of the Marines, their relationship could still be that of adversaries. Therefore, Akainu would not align himself directly with Dragon, but due to their shared enemy (the World Government), they may find themselves fighting alongside each other.
